Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand announced the final number of Leopard 2 tanks sent to Ukraine
Canadian authorities have decided on the final number tanks German-made, which should strengthen the Ukrainian army. According to Canadian Minister of National Defense Anita Anand, the equipment will go to Ukraine "in the coming weeks."
Canada will send four Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, this decision was made by the country's government. In addition, Ottawa will provide Ukraine with military instructors who will have to train Ukrainian crews to control German tanks. There is no data on the exact timing of the delivery of tanks, Anand promises to hand over the armored vehicles "in the coming weeks."
- the minister said, adding that in the future the number of tanks delivered to Ukraine may increase, but this depends on many factors, including the impact on the defense capability of Canada itself.
Earlier, Kyiv stated that Canada is one of the countries that can supply Ukraine with a “significant” number of tanks, especially since Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is on friendly terms with Zelensky. The office of the President of Ukraine called the desired number of armored vehicles, talking about "at least forty units." As it turned out, four tanks for Ottawa is all it can do to help Ukraine.
According to open sources, the Canadian Army is armed with 82 Leopard tanks acquired in 2007 + another 30 "training" tanks that are not adapted for combat operations. Of these, only 40 are in service - these are 20 Leopard 2A6M CAN tanks and another 20 in the Leopard 2A4M CAN modification. As it turned out, in fact there are much fewer of them - only about 20 units. Another 42 Leopard 2A4M CAN tanks are in conservation. Apparently Zelensky was counting on them.
