January 27 - Day of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade
The blockade of Leningrad lasted almost 900 days. And on January 27, 1943, the beautiful city on the Neva was completely liberated from the enemy blockade. It was on this day that the Red Army managed to break through the enemy's defenses at its narrowest point and restore land communication between Leningrad and the rest of the country.
And before that date, the second most populous Russian city after Moscow was almost completely cut off from the outside world. Its inhabitants, being in the most difficult conditions, in spite of everything, retained the hope that Leningrad would not surrender to the enemy, continued to believe in Victory. Leningraders showed extraordinary stamina, knowing that the enemy would be defeated sooner or later. The city continued to live, enterprises and institutions worked here. Besieged Leningrad not only survived, but also continued to produce weapons, ammunition, and uniforms for the front. And all this despite hunger, cold, shelling and disease.
Leningrad did not completely turn into a deserted ghost town only thanks to the courage of Soviet soldiers and commanders who did everything possible to free it from the blockade of the Nazis as soon as possible.
On this day, we remember these amazing people, whose feat serves as an example for us and for future generations.
The editorial staff of Voyennoye Obozreniye congratulates the Leningraders who survived the siege years, respected veterans of the Great Patriotic War and all Russians on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the liberation of the city on the Neva from the fascist blockade.
