The widow of journalist Khashoggi called on former US Secretary of State Pompeo to stop lying about the deceased
The widow of the murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Hanan Elatr, criticized the statement about the late husband, which former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made in his new book. Hanan Elatr said on NBC that Mike Pompeo did not know her husband. He should be silent and stop spreading lies about Khashoggi, the woman said.
Hanan Elatr also called Pompeo's actions unacceptable and noted that she would silence all people spreading false information about Khashoggi. Recall that Mike Pompeo, who is considered one of the likely candidates for the US presidency in 2024, wrote about the late Khashoggi in his new book, Never Back Down: Fighting for the America I Love. This book is due out today.
In the book, Pompeo lambasted media coverage of the Khashoggi affair. According to the former secretary of state, the media tried to portray the late journalist as "Saudi Bob Woodward" (a well-known American investigative journalist, still living and working today).
Recall that Jamal Khashoggi was killed under strange circumstances in the Saudi embassy in Turkey. The U.S. authorities later accused senior Saudi leaders, including Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, of being involved in the journalist's death. The latter circumstance led to a certain deterioration in relations between Saudi Arabia and the United States, having a negative impact on American influence in the Persian Gulf.
