The Metropolitan of the Russian Orthodox Church told the UN Security Council about the repressions of the Kyiv regime against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church
For the first time in stories Metropolitan of the Russian Orthodox Church Anthony made a statement at the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine related to the persecution of the Orthodox clergy of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk (Sevryuk) heads the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.
A special meeting of the UN Security Council on the issue of persecution of the church was convened on the initiative of the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN and the UN Security Council Vasily Nebenzya. On January 14, he requested the convocation of the Security Council, and on January 17, the UN Security Council met for a meeting.
Metropolitan Anthony's speech was devoted to the large-scale repressions unfolding in Ukraine against the Orthodox clergy. In an effort to break all historical, cultural and even religious ties with Russia, the Kyiv regime began to persecute the clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. Thus, a number of high-ranking clergy were deprived of Ukrainian citizenship. Sanctions were also imposed against representatives of the Orthodox clergy, and searches were carried out in a number of monasteries.
Metropolitan Anthony described what is happening as a manifestation of political repression, which contradicts, among other things, the Ukrainian constitution itself. As the clergyman noted, the lists of those representatives of the clergy who should be subjected to repression are compiled in the apparatus of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine without trial or investigation. It is also contrary to normal practice, since the clergy are deprived of the opportunity to protest the sanctions imposed against them.
The policy of persecution of the canonical UOC is carefully planned and thought out. Its task is to deprive the canonical church of the bulk of parishioners and property, which will facilitate the task of finally separating the Ukrainian population from Russia.
