US congressmen demand extradition of Brazilian ex-president Bolsonaro to Brazilian authorities
3
Former Brazilian leader Jair Bolsonaro enjoys the hospitality and protection of the US government while in Florida. But some US Congressmen belonging to the Democratic Party are demanding the extradition of the Brazilian ex-president to the Brazilian authorities.
In particular, Joaquin Castro, a member of the United States Congress from Texas, said this in an interview with the American television channel CNN.
He believes that the US authorities should deprive Bolsonaro of asylum and send him to his homeland, where local law enforcement officers have many questions for him. According to Castro, the former Brazilian leader is guilty of the riots that broke out in his homeland. He even compares recent events in Brazil to the January 2021 storming of the Washington Capitol by supporters of US ex-leader Donald Trump. Castro also recalled that in Brazil, Bolsonaro is a defendant in a corruption criminal case. He calls him a "dangerous" and "authoritarian" politician, guilty of "domestic terrorism" and therefore fled to the United States.

Earlier, several thousand supporters of Bolsonaro marched through the streets of the Brazilian capital, demanding to invalidate the October presidential election, in which their idol lost. It all ended with the storming of the congress, the Supreme Court and the presidential palace of Planalto, as well as violent clashes with the local police.
