Armor of Russia. Movies 7-8

By the 60s in the Soviet Army there were three types tanks - light, medium and heavy. In 1966, the T-64 was adopted. In terms of maneuverability, it was a medium tank, and its armor and weapons were not inferior to heavy ones. As a result, the classification of tanks by mass was abandoned. The concept of "main tank" appeared. The first was the T-64A.
The T-64 is a revolutionary tank. In the film, including using computer graphics, shows innovations introduced on this tank.
50-60-e were marked by this rocket boom. Guided missiles began to equip and various armored vehicles. A special tank destroyer IT 1 “Dragon” was developed with a retractable missile launcher.

And soon the T-64 modification “B” was able to launch rockets directly from the gun barrel.
Another area was the search for improved terrain. Various options were proposed: the use of four tracks, hydrofoil tanks and even an air cushion.
Initially, there were certain problems with the T-64 troops. The greatest criticism was his new engine. A little later, it will bring to mind. In the meantime, in order not to risk in the conditions of the Cold War, they decided to install a more proven engine for the T-64 mobilization option. It was a development engine, mounted on the legendary T-34. As a result, another main tank appeared - T-72. This tank gained popularity not only in the Soviet troops, but also in the armies of other states.
The film also tells about the creation of fundamentally new types of armored weapons. This is an infantry combat vehicle and an airborne combat vehicle (BMP-1 and BMP-2, BMD-1 and BMD-2). Showing unique film frames of comparative tests of experimental machines. Armored personnel carriers (BTR-60P and BTR-70) also developed.
With the development of military transport aviation there was an opportunity to airborne almost any type of weaponry, including tanks. This was already a qualitatively different level of defense of the country.
