Germany and France appealed to Brussels with a call to reconsider anti-Russian sanctions in connection with food problems
Several countries of the European Union immediately turned to the European Commission about the need to “adjust” anti-Russian sanctions. First, such an appeal was made by Hungary, then by Germany and France. Moreover, these countries have different reasons for applying.
Hungary is in favor of reviewing the sanctions, noting that the energy sector of both Hungary and the whole of Europe suffers because of them. Prime Minister Orban urges Brussels to clearly understand the growing risks in this regard.
Berlin and Paris have a different reason. There, turning to the EC, they said that because of the sanctions there are problems in the food market in Europe. The most obvious problem is the enormous rise in food prices. For some items, including vegetable oil and eggs, prices in Europe have increased by an average of 28% since the beginning of the year. It was food inflation that turned out to be the highest in Europe in the entire recent history. It got to the point that the shelves of food stores were emptied by customers even more intensively than it was at the peak of covid. At the same time, European bureaucrats claimed that Russia was the reason for the lack of affordable food. Who else ... They themselves did not seem to impose sanctions ...
Now the governments of Germany and France are turning to Brussels with a request to take such measures that would allow returning the previous levels of food imports (cereals, legumes, vegetable and animal oils, sugar, etc.) from the Russian Federation in order, as stated, to stabilize the situation in winter period.
