In Belarus, the death penalty for high treason will be introduced, the corresponding bill is being considered by the deputies of the National Assembly of the republic.
The Belarusian parliament is considering a new bill providing for the death penalty for civil servants, as well as military officers who have taken an oath, for high treason. According to the draft of the new law, which has already been adopted by the deputies in the first reading, amendments will be made to the sanctions of Part 2 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of Belarus "Treason to the State". According to the new wording, an exceptional measure of punishment in the form of the death penalty is introduced for high treason committed by a person holding a public position or a soldier.
Also, changes will be made to articles 58 and 59 of the Criminal Code of Belarus "Life imprisonment" and "Death penalty", respectively.
As explained in the Parliament, the amendments are made to influence the destructive elements. To put it simply, Lukashenka warns any oppositionists who want to change power in the republic that he does not intend to joke.
In order to exert a deterrent effect on destructive elements, as well as to demonstrate a resolute struggle against treason against the state, the draft Law proposes to amend the sanction of part 2 of article 356 of the Criminal Code, providing for the possibility of applying an exceptional measure of punishment in the form of the death penalty for treason against the state committed by an official holding public office. position, or by a person to whom the status of a military person applies
