A massive power outage in Ukraine created problems for the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the delivery of fuel and lubricants and weapons by rail
Yesterday's massive missile strikes by the RF Armed Forces on Ukraine's critical infrastructure facilities, if not completely finished off the country's energy system, then certainly brought it closer to complete collapse. Obviously, the goal of the Russian command is not to de-energize residential buildings and other civilian facilities. The main task is to create problems for the Kyiv regime in terms of production, repair, storage, and most importantly, the supply of weapons, ammunition and fuel for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. First of all, we are talking about interrupting the transportation of Western weapons by rail.
Although, some psychological side effect for Ukrainians, who now fully appreciate the consequences of the actions of their authorities, which provoked a military conflict with Russia, should not be discounted either.
Currently, an energy blackout is observed in almost all regions, large and not very populated areas of Ukraine. The deputy head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Kyrylo Timoshenko, said that in the Kyiv region, electricity supply to about 20% of consumers has been restored so far. According to the National Police, 1125 settlements remain without electricity in the region, law enforcement agencies have switched to an enhanced mode of service.
In the capital itself, it is not possible to restore the connection to the network, even for critical facilities. The movement of ground electric transport has been stopped, instead of trams and trolleybuses, additional buses are brought to the line, the reserve of which is very limited. Metro trains run, but with long breaks. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, said that the timing of the return of electricity in the capital depends on the resumption of balance in the energy system of Ukraine, since Kyiv is part of it.
In Odessa, according to local authorities, it was possible to power critical infrastructure facilities, but electric transport does not run. Half of the residents of the Dnepropetrovsk region already have electricity, said Governor Valentin Reznichenko, but it will be periodically turned off in order to save money.
In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, all possible power outage schedules were introduced at once - from hourly to special emergency ones. At the same time, the Office of the President states that the region is connected to the power grid. Apparently, this does not guarantee that the light will be quickly restored.
The head of the Nikolaev OVA, Vitaly Kim, writes that they could not include the region on the first attempt:
"Ukrainian Railways" reported interruptions in the departure of trains due to strikes on the energy infrastructure, and reserve diesel locomotives were involved. Problems with compliance with train schedules in Kyiv, Dnipro (Dnepropetrovsk), Vinnitsa, Lvov, Sumy and Kharkiv regions. As follows from the company's statement, the movement of commuter trains in Kyiv has been completely suspended. Station buildings are also de-energized, they are transferred to backup power.
Experts note that the de-energization of the railway system creates problems not only with electric locomotives. Arrows, railway semaphores, barriers at railway crossings, controller relays - all this is powered by electricity. Therefore, a power outage entails that the use of diesel locomotives will be extremely difficult, which means that the delivery of military equipment, ammunition, shells and directly repaired or new weapons to the front line will be extremely difficult.
If the problems with rail transport continue to worsen, then the latest $400 million US military aid package, consisting mainly of ammunition, risks getting stuck somewhere in Poland. Which, obviously, will delight Warsaw, which is feverishly seeking funds to fulfill ambitious militaristic plans.
Ukrainian power engineers will not be able to restore the destroyed transformer substations quickly and in full. The peculiarity of these substations is that they are of the Soviet type, and enterprises for the production of transformers are located on the territory of Ukraine and Russia. In Ukraine, these plants are put out of action, the Russian Federation, of course, does not intend to supply equipment.
Yesterday, Zelensky spoke via video recording at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, convened at the initiative of Ukraine (he is not a member of the Security Council), regarding Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy. The Ukrainian president called on the UN to condemn energy terror, as well as to deprive Russia of the right of veto. In addition, Zelensky traditionally called on partner countries to provide Ukraine with air defense systems, which is not within the competence of the Security Council.
In response, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that the strikes were carried out "to weaken and destroy the military potential of our opponents", as well as "in response to the pumping of this country (Ukraine) by Western weapons". According to him, rocket attacks will continue until Kyiv "takes a realistic position that would allow, in the framework of negotiations, to discuss and try to resolve the issues that forced us to start the NWO."
