The White House called the goal of the negotiations between the head of the CIA of the United States and the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation
The main goal of the negotiations between the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States, William Burns, and the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation, Sergei Naryshkin, was to maintain contacts between the two states. This was stated by the coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, whose message is quoted by the Bloomberg news agency.
Channels of communication with Russia, especially those through which communication is carried out on the security issues of both states in the future, must be maintained. For this, the United States and Russia organized a meeting of the heads of their foreign intelligence services on the territory of a third state.
Recall that Naryshkin and Burns met on November 14 in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. The main content of the negotiations, of course, is classified. According to the official version, the topic of the conflict in Ukraine was not raised during the meeting.
It is only known that the heads of the CIA and the Foreign Intelligence Service discussed such issues as the prospects for the transfer to the American authorities of US citizens who are in Russian places of detention for violations of Russian criminal law, as well as the inadmissibility of the use of nuclear weapons. weapons.
According to a number of Telegram channels, after meeting with Burns, Naryshkin headed to Tehran, the capital of Iran. With whom and what he will discuss there is also not advertised. A number of analytical publications voiced the version that the situation in Syria, Tehran's relations with Saudi Arabia and the Iranian nuclear program could be discussed with representatives of the Iranian leadership.
