New British Prime Minister: The government cannot solve all the problems of citizens
The UK authorities currently cannot solve all the problems of subjects of the British crown. This was stated by the recently appointed Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in an interview with The Times.
As Sunak noted, no government can solve all the problems of citizens. “Life is not so simple,” the Prime Minister emphasized, noting the importance of an honest approach towards the citizens of the country.
Earlier it became known that Sunak is going to raise taxes to cover the resulting state budget deficit of 50 billion pounds (57,3 billion dollars). These measures, Sunak hopes, will help him fight inflation.
In addition, Sunak may extend the excess profit tax for oil companies until 2028, increasing its rate from 25% to 30%. Truss opposed such a measure, which led to the depletion of the state budget. However, the increase in the tax, in turn, could lead to the fact that the British energy giants will begin to change registration.
Sunak also abandoned plans to build a high-speed rail line in the north of the UK. Liz Truss, Sunak's predecessor as head of government, promised to build the road, but amid the financial crisis, the plans of the British government are changing.
However, the UK found itself in a difficult economic situation for a reason. The policy of anti-Russian sanctions has contributed to the rise in energy and food prices around the world, and the United Kingdom is no exception. In addition, London is investing huge amounts of money in support of Ukraine, putting its own citizens and economy in second place compared to serving US political ambitions in Eastern Europe.
