Due to a failure, the largest refinery in the EU, the Shell plant in the Netherlands, stopped its work
Western media report on the shutdown of the largest oil refinery in the European Union. Reports say that a massive failure occurred at a Shell plant in the Netherlands, as a result of which the plant, which employs several thousand employees, had to be closed.
It all started, according to the local regulator, due to sudden problems with the power supply. This led to a shutdown of the main compression plant. It is used to turn oil into gasoline.
In order to prevent excess pressure in the system that could lead to an explosion, the company's management decided to increase the volume of combusted gaseous hydrocarbons by several times. As a result, the town of Pernis, where the refinery is located, and its surroundings, including the territory of Rotterdam, began to cloud over with caustic combustion products. The locals began to complain. The service of ecological monitoring has joined the work.
Shell Company:
The company's press secretary went on to say, in streamlined terms, that "all necessary measures are being taken, including measures to minimize collateral damage to citizens and the environment."
In connection with the shutdown of the refinery, the pumping of petroleum products through pipelines that connect the refinery with the port infrastructure of Rotterdam has been stopped. Accordingly, the shipment of fuel to tankers is not carried out yet. This could clearly affect the pricing of refined petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel fuel and aviation kerosene.
