The President of Serbia announced the likelihood of a new version of the "Battle of Stalingrad"
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić spoke at the presentation of the collected works of the Serbian historian and philosopher Milorad Ekmečić (1928-2015). At this event, Vučić stated that he was afraid of the upcoming possible new version of the "Battle of Stalingrad". As the head of the Serbian state noted, Ekmecich once predicted the course of events that we are witnessing in the world today. So, he foresaw the economic crisis in Europe and the events in Ukraine.
According to Vučić, Ekmečić bequeathed the Serbs never to go to war again. Too many trials have befallen the lot of the Serbian people over the long years of their stories. Ekmechic looked to the future, basing his forecasts on knowledge of world and national history.
In his works, Ekmechich spoke about the most important role of religion in the formation of the peoples of the Balkan Peninsula. The national identities of Serbs, Croats, Bosnians were formed precisely on the basis of confessional affiliation. This, by the way, distinguishes the southern Slavs from the same neighboring Albanians, for whom the ethnic factor is prevalent compared to the religious one. Albanians put national identity first: a Christian Albanian and a Muslim Albanian still remain Albanians. The Slavs have a different situation: wars in Yugoslavia have always been the result of religious contradictions.
For the Serbian people, religion and a rich history have always been the main factors in the preservation of national identity. Even now, the Serbs remain one of the few peoples of Europe who have not succumbed to globalization and the imposition of certain universal standards of socio-cultural development. Vučić noted that today the civil war in Ukraine is also becoming a very important factor. It doesn't necessarily have to escalate into a world war.
According to the Serbian President, both the country and the world are in for a definitely more difficult period than it was in the XNUMXs, when the USSR and Yugoslavia collapsed.
- said Alexander Vucic.
