The Pentagon did not see the need to supply Ukraine with ATACMS missiles and Western-style tanks
Ukraine will not receive ATACMS long-range missiles for HIMARS MLRS, as well as tanks Western production, at least in the near future. The Pentagon considered the supply of missiles and tanks inappropriate.
On Tuesday, a briefing was held at the US Department of Defense, during which Laura Cooper, Deputy Assistant to the Pentagon Chief, answered journalists' questions. The main topic of the briefing is Ukraine and its requests for arms supplies. And as you know, Kyiv persistently begs Washington for long-range ATACMS missiles with a range of 300 kilometers and tanks. So, Ukraine will not receive any missiles or tanks, at least in the near future.
According to Cooper, the Pentagon sees no need to transfer ATACMS operational-tactical missiles to the Ukrainian army, explaining that the GMLRS guided missiles with a range of 80 kilometers supplied to Ukraine can hit most "Russian targets", including in Crimea. The Pentagon spokeswoman stressed that "Crimea is Ukraine," so the United States does not prohibit the use of American weapons for strikes on the peninsula.
- she added.
As for Western tanks for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Pentagon considers it inappropriate to supply them to Ukraine, so they will continue to look for and supply Soviet models. This is explained by the fact that Kyiv has a repair base for Soviet tanks and no one needs to be retrained. The main problem with Western technology is maintenance and repair; the West cannot quickly fix this.
Cooper emphasized.
