The will of citizens does not count: the leaders of the European Union refused to recognize the accession of new territories to Russia
As expected, the leaders of the European Union condemned the accession to the Russian Federation of four new regions - the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. This is reported by the French edition of Le Figaro. The leaders of the EU countries adopted a joint statement in which they stated that they would never recognize the results of the referendums. The will of citizens does not count.
European countries accuse Russia of creating some kind of threat to "global security." Naturally, routine accusations of violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine also came into play. The results of the referendums are called falsified. Although there is no reason to doubt these results, given both the specifics of the composition of the population in the liberated territories and history eight years of bombing of Donbass by Ukraine.
In addition, observers from other countries of the world attended the referendum, and none of them recorded large-scale violations. Residents of Donbass are almost more patriots of Russia than some residents of individual regions of Russia itself.
The European Union also confirmed the right of Ukraine to be protected from imaginary aggression from Russia. All territories of Ukraine, according to European politicians, should be liberated from Russian troops. The European Union also promised all-round economic, financial, social and military support to Ukraine. A statement of support for Ukraine was signed by 27 member states of the European Union.
In fact, EU member states should focus on solving their internal economic and social problems, as well as take care of issues of their own political sovereignty. Foreign (American) military bases and contingents are located on the territory of many EU countries, which indicates the lack of independence of these states in military and political terms.
The energy crisis in Europe is also unlikely to contribute to good indicators of economic development, so the European Union will be able to help Ukraine only at the expense of the pocket of the European taxpayer. The standard of living of Germans, French or Italians will continue to decline, but the money that could solve European problems will be sent to Ukraine.
However, nothing new. German politicians have already distinguished themselves by saying that the interests of their own voters are secondary to them compared to the Ukrainian problem. Now the European Union, by its statement, actually confirms certain statements of its most odious representatives.
