Poland purchased a large batch of South Korean K4 automatic grenade launchers
Poland bought a large batch of South Korean K4 anti-personnel automatic grenade launchers, the deal went through a few weeks ago, but it has only just been officially announced. According to the representative of the Arms Agency of the Ministry of National Defense of Poland, Lieutenant Colonel Krzysztof Platek, the supply weapons and ammunition will be produced within a few months.
According to the statement, in total, South Korea will supply the Polish army with several hundred 40x53 mm grenade launchers, as well as 500 high-velocity grenades for them. At the same time, Warsaw refutes the information of the South Korean media that Poland allegedly requested the transfer of technology and a license for the production of these grenade launchers at its enterprises.
The Daewoo K4 is a South Korean 40×53 mm high-speed automatic mounted grenade launcher based on the American Mk 19. It was developed by S&T Motiv (formerly S&T Daewoo and Daewoo Precision Industries). In 1993, it was adopted by the Armed Forces of South Korea. It can fire KM383 high-explosive fragmentation grenades or K212 dual-use grenades at a distance of up to 1500 m. The mass of the grenade launcher is 65,9 kg, the rate of fire is 250 rounds per minute.
It is worth noting that the Polish army is armed with an American Mk.19 belt-fed automatic grenade launcher, on the basis of which the South Korean counterpart was created. The question arises why Poland needs two, in fact, absolutely identical grenade launchers. True, there is an assumption that the K4s purchased in South Korea are actually intended for Ukraine if the contract provides for the transfer of weapons to a third party. But this is only an assumption, as in fact, they know only in Warsaw.
