The plane collapsed during the fall and completely burned out, the pilot managed to eject and was taken to a medical facility in a satisfactory condition. Until the causes of the crash are clarified, the flights of the Su-25 of the Bulgarian Air Force are suspended.
During the incident, the plane completely collapsed and burned down, a special commission is investigating the incident, as soon as its cause is clear, it will be officially announced. Flights of other SU-25 aircraft are temporarily suspended
- said Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov.
News about the crash of the attack aircraft was negatively received in Ukraine, where they already consider the Bulgarian Su-25s to be their own, although Sofia does not seem to be going to hand over the planes. Ukrainian resources claim that the crashed plane was part of a group that was allegedly being prepared for transfer to Kyiv, and before that, final testing was carried out. It’s hard to say whether it’s true or not, as Sofia previously denied all statements about the transfer of aircraft to Ukraine.
The Bulgarian Air Force is armed with 14 Su-25 attack aircraft, eight of them (six Su-25K and two Su-25UB) were modernized in Belarus at the 558th aircraft repair plant in Baranovichi in the period from 2019 to 2021.
