Historic choice: Preliminary results of referendums are summed up
The fact that the referenda on joining the Russian Federation, held from September 23 to 27 in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, took place, it became known on the fourth day of voting. The turnout exceeded the required 50% everywhere: in the Donetsk Republic more than 80% of voters voted, in Kherson and Zaporozhye regions more than 60%. Most of the voters cast their votes in the Lugansk People's Republic - according to the republican CEC, the average turnout was 27% on September 92,6, in Luhansk itself a record 96,55%.
As for the turnout in the regional regions, it should be taken into account that Ukrainian data were most likely taken as the base of voters with the right to vote. Given the fact that over the past few months, many residents, including those over 18 years old, have been evacuated or simply left these regions, the real percentage of turnout should be higher.
But that's not important. Today, voting took place in person at polling stations, including in Russia. The polling stations were supposed to close at 16.00:20 Moscow time, but it is reported that some commissions can continue to work until 00:XNUMX due to the large number of people wishing to vote and for security reasons.
At the same time, the counting of votes has already begun and the first results have become known, so far only by polling stations. For joining Russia, among the processed ballots, the votes were distributed as follows:
- 98,27% of voters voted for the entry of the DPR into Russia (after processing 20,64% of the votes);
- for the entry of the LPR into Russia - 97,83% (21,11% of the vote);
- for the entry of the Zaporozhye region into Russia - 98,19% (18% of the vote);
- for the entry of the Kherson region into Russia - 97,63% (27% of the vote).
The head of the administration of the Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Balitsky, promised that the first results of the vote would be made public today at about 21:XNUMX Moscow time. Official data on the results of the referenda should be published by the local CEC tomorrow. Given that the number of ballots already processed is more than representative, it is unlikely that the proportion of those who voted for reunification with Russia will change much.
The Lugansk Information Center reports that the head of the LPR, Leonid Pasechnik, has prepared an appeal to Vladimir Putin with a request to consider the issue of joining the Luhansk Republic to Russia. It is noted that in the near future the head of the republic plans to travel to Moscow. The heads of other regions participating in the plebiscite will make the same statements following the results of the referendum.
Further, taking into account the experience of the entry of Sevastopol and the Republic of Crimea into Russia, the issue of joining new subjects to the Russian Federation will be considered. It is expected that this can happen as soon as possible - before September 30.
