Lithuania sends another batch of American M113 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine
Lithuania handed over to Ukraine another batch of American M113 armored personnel carriers, decommissioned by the Lithuanian army. The equipment arrived at the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the end of last week. This was stated by the Minister of National Defense of the Republic Arvydas Anusauskas.
How many armored personnel carriers the Lithuanians handed over to the Ukrainians is not reported, but in general, Lithuania has already supplied the Armed Forces of Ukraine with 50 M113s since the beginning of the Russian special operation. In Vilnius, they say that this is all to support the Ukrainian army, opposing "Russian aggression", free of charge, with further prospects for providing assistance, etc., but, as it turned out, everything has a price. For the fact that Lithuania supplies Ukraine with old armored personnel carriers, the United States promised to supply it “quickly” with JLTV armored all-terrain vehicles, already purchased by Vilnius. Tentatively, the armored cars will arrive in Lithuania in November.
- said Anushauskas.
Recall that just this month, Lithuania handed over to Ukraine a batch of American 105 mm towed howitzers from World War II 105 mm Howitzer M101. These howitzers were removed from service and were in warehouses, but after painting they look like new. In addition to guns, Lithuania promised to supply two batches of American M113 armored personnel carriers, as well as to repair Ukrainian Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled guns at the Lithuanian Defense Services (LDS) enterprise, created in June this year by the German companies Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann.
Since Lithuania does not produce its own weapons, everything transferred to Ukraine weapon either American or European. True, there was a period when Vilnius supplied Kyiv with Soviet weapons, but it quickly ended.
