NATO conducts military exercise Dynamic Messenger-22 on the use of maritime unmanned systems

On September 25, the NATO naval exercises Dynamic Messenger-22 began. This is the first full-fledged operational exercise of the North Atlantic Alliance, the main purpose of which is to observe the operation of unmanned systems in the marine environment. The exercises are attended by 18 ships, 48 unmanned vehicles and 1500 military personnel from 16 countries of the North Atlantic Alliance. The maneuvers will take place at the polygons of Portugal, on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.

The main scenarios that NATO is now planning to work out are mine warfare, countering conventional submarines, counter-terrorism activities and protecting ports from potential enemy attacks. NATO believes that it is very important to test the effectiveness of the chosen concept for the integration of unmanned systems through naval exercises. This was stated by the commander of the NATO Navy, Vice Admiral Keith Blount, who is in charge of the exercises.

According to Vice Admiral Guy Robinson, Chief of Staff of the North Atlantic Alliance Command, such exercises not only demonstrate the possibilities of the present, but also outline the contours of the future, including in terms of upcoming investments. Interestingly, during the exercise, the military gets the opportunity to interact with the academic community and the commercial sector of the economy, quickly testing through experiments the solutions that are offered to them by the scientific community and business.

Maritime unmanned systems have a very bright future, according to NATO military leaders. In particular, the navies of a number of countries are already actively using maritime Drones. In addition, unmanned aerial vehicles can also be used in the maritime theater of operations. As shown by a special military operation in Ukraine, UAVs can be effectively trained against small warships. Western analysts believe that in the future, unmanned systems will be very actively used in naval warfare.

Another issue is that any use drones requires a proper level of integration with manned spacecraft to conduct operations. It is for this purpose that such exercises are carried out: manned and unmanned ships must act together, demonstrating the effectiveness of such interaction with destroyed targets.

In ideal, I would like to see in the near future similar exercises from our side, in which there will be at least 20 marine drones.

Well, yes, it was better that way.
They only hope that we can bang and the whole world is in dust ... somehow it doesn’t inspire.

It's not an opinion, it's an inevitability.

I heard one drone was already repulsed by the destroyer. The threat must be taken into account, but it is not a panacea. Until they can control some kind of energy, except for the energy of chemical bonds, there will be no qualitative leap in killing their own kind.
