Newsweek: 'Through the Looking-Glass' seems to be the source of inspiration for Western democracy
As Newsweek unexpectedly soberly notes, any actions of the West, led by the United States, are democratic only because the West decided so, and vice versa, everything that they consider unacceptable is undemocratic.
At the same time, the West, having created international institutions like the IMF, imposes its interests on the world, which, of course, must be defended through violation of the rights of other countries.
The policy of the West is very reminiscent of the plot from the fairy tale "Through the Looking Glass" by the English writer Lewis Carroll, writes Newsweek.
Especially the essence of this policy is conveyed by the dialogue between Alice and Humpty Dumpty, when the latter gives an explanation for his words:
says Humpty.
And to Alice's question that the word may not obey, Humpty replies:
Those. the presence of power determines the meaning of words.
According to Newsweek columnist Pedro Gonzalez, these words are the basis of President Biden's recent speech at the UN General Assembly. Biden in his speech noted that the United States is determined to protect and strengthen democracy at home and around the world.
Gonzalez notes that the West, in order to give legitimacy to any of its actions, introduced the term “world community” into the minds of people, which means, first of all, itself.
Thus, the West, and above all the United States, consider themselves Humpty Dumpty, who determines what is evil and what is good.
