Anti-government rally in Prague was the largest in the history of the independent Czech Republic
The largest protest in recent decades is taking place in the center of Prague. The protesters gathered on Wenceslas Square, but the square clearly could not accommodate everyone who wanted to express dissatisfaction with the work of the government. The streets adjacent to Wenceslas Square also began to fill up. According to the most conservative estimates, in the center of the Czech capital, an anti-government rally gathered 80 people.
Protesters are protesting against the government of Peter Fiala. This man has headed the Czech Cabinet of Ministers since December last year.
During this time, inflation in the republic doubled, unemployment increased by at least 11%. The greatest negative for Czech citizens is the rapid rise in prices for energy resources, and, accordingly, for housing and communal services. The Central Bank of the Czech Republic reported a record inflation for 30 years - in fact, for the entire time of the existence of an independent Czech Republic.
Leaders of the Czech opposition appeared at the protest rally and demanded the resignation of the Fiala government. This demand was supported by many thousands gathered in the center of Prague.
One of the representatives of the opposition forces:
The protesters said the prime minister had been summoned for talks. So far, Fiala's office has not responded to this call.
It is noteworthy what demands the protesters put forward (in addition to the resignation of the government). This is the reduction of VAT, taxes, as well as the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions, which have already led to the ruin of hundreds of Czech businessmen.
Zuzana Maierova-Zahradnikova (one of the leaders of the Czech opposition):
According to Mayerova-Zahradnikova, the government should immediately stop arming the Ukrainian regime and finally take care of the safety and well-being of the citizens of the Czech Republic.
The leaders of the Slovak opposition also spoke at the rally, noting that the official Bratislava today protects the interests of anyone, but not the citizens of Slovakia.
According to the estimates of the protesters themselves, the number of people gathered in the center of Prague exceeded 100 thousand people. In any case, this is the largest protest in the Czech Republic ever. history her independence.
