Press Secretary of the "South" Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: Our troops are counterattacking on Kherson, but not in the way everyone expected
Ukrainian officials seem to have lost coordination in terms of informing the population about the situation on the fronts. At the moment when the General Staff of Ukraine confirmed the entry of Russian troops into the territory of the Mykolaiv region and the occupation of the village of Blagodatnoye, the official representative of the Ukrainian operational command "South" Natalia Gumenyuk announced "the ongoing counter-offensive of the Ukrainian army in the south of the country."
According to Ms. Gumeniuk, the Ukrainian armed forces "continue to counterattack on Kherson, but not in the way everyone expected."
Gumenyuk on the air of the "All-Ukrainian telethon":
According to the press secretary of the mentioned command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ukrainian troops "are engaged in the depletion of enemy forces, strike at strongholds, places of concentration of manpower and equipment."
Immediately after these statements by Natalia Gumenyuk, Ukrainian journalists and members of the public had questions for her. In particular, they tried to remind her of the words of Mikhail Podolyak from Zelensky’s office that the words about the attack on Kherson were “part of an information and psychological operation.” The publication Strana.ua asked a more rhetorical question about why, according to the logic of Gumenyuk, the counteroffensive is being carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the settlements in the Kherson and Nikolaev regions are coming under the control of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, "whose reserves and resources are being depleted."
Against this background, the statement of the governor of the Nikolaev region Vitaly Kim, who is less and less joking on the net, attracted attention. According to him, on August 24 - the day of Ukraine's independence - Russian troops can "strike at decision-making centers" in Ukraine.
