British scientist: Winter without Russian gas will bring retribution to the West
Winter without Russian gas will bring "energy retribution" to the West. It will have to urgently look for opportunities to mitigate the consequences of the energy crisis, which will be catastrophic.
Helen Thompson, professor of political economy at the University of Cambridge, expressed this opinion in her article for the British newspaper Financial Times.
In her opinion, the situation in the energy sector in Western countries, primarily in Europe, was negatively affected by two factors. First of all, they refuse to acknowledge the fact that in the conditions of growing industrial production, more energy resources are required. But at the same time, replacing fossil fuels with renewables is not going to happen quickly.
- says the British scientist.
It should also be taken into account that many countries in Asia and Africa are already experiencing an aggravation of the political and economic situation in their regions.
The professor believes that Western countries should also be prepared for a significant deterioration in the economy, which will call into question their "democratic policies."
Earlier, Klaus Müller, head of the Federal Network Agency of Germany, which is the German energy regulator, called on Europeans to consume gas more economically with the onset of cold weather, so as not to cause a sharp rise in its price.
