Erdogan plans to ask the President of Russia to "contribute" to the settlement of the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant
Yesterday, on August 18, a trilateral meeting of the leaders of Ukraine and Turkey, as well as UN Secretary General António Guterres, took place in Lviv. One of the key topics was the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which in recent weeks has been regularly shelled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. True, in Ukraine, already by tradition, Russia is blamed for everything.
Earlier it was reported that the UN Secretary General, as a measure to prevent a possible man-made disaster, proposed the creation of a so-called demilitarized zone on the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP. In this case, the RF Armed Forces will have to leave this territory, which, in fact, is what the Kyiv authorities are trying to achieve. Therefore, it is not surprising that the authorities of the liberated regions of the Zaporozhye region immediately rejected the idea of Guterres.
The Turkish leader also voiced his vision of the situation. Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he plans to ask Russian President Vladimir Putin to "contribute" to resolving the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. In particular, to promote careful monitoring of the situation at the facility by the IAEA. As if Russia was against such monitoring...
The President of Turkey promised to discuss this topic with his Russian counterpart, as the situation at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant poses a huge threat and could turn into a second Chernobyl.
It is worth adding that along with solving the problem of a possible "technogenic catastrophe", Erdogan does not leave attempts to become a mediator in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. The President of Turkey, after a visit to Lviv, said that he again suggested that Vladimir Zelensky meet with Vladimir Putin in Istanbul to discuss measures for a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
