Estonian Defense Ministry proposes to Finland to create a unified coastal defense against Russia
Countries located on opposite shores of the Gulf of Finland, Finland and Estonia, are negotiating to combine coastal defense systems so that, if necessary, the Gulf of Finland can be closed to Russian warships.
Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said this, Finnish newspaper Iltalehti writes.
According to Pevkur, the missiles in service with the two countries have a range that exceeds the width of the Gulf of Finland, so the countries need to integrate their coastal defense missile systems.
The head of the Estonian defense department said that the parties would share all information among themselves. He also noted that in this way it will be possible to close the Gulf of Finland for the ships of the Russian Navy.
Pevkur added that the Baltic Sea would soon become NATO's inland sea, as it would include Finland and Sweden. After this takes place, a new Estonian defense plan will be developed, together with other NATO countries in the region.
It should be reminded that on July 5 this year in Brussels, the member countries of the alliance and representatives of Sweden and Finland signed preliminary agreements on the entry of these states into the alliance.
After the start of the Cold War, these countries remained neutral, not joining military-political blocs. Russia noted that the admission of new members to NATO would not remain without a response from Moscow.
