The United States will supply arms to Ukraine "as needed." This statement was made by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, who visited Latvia.
The head of the Pentagon arrived in the Baltics, as he himself put it, to discuss further support for Ukraine. According to him, he looks forward to meeting with the Latvian government to discuss security issues in the Baltic region and further support for Ukraine. Riga, in turn, said that the main task of the US Secretary of Defense is to reaffirm the US commitment to protecting all NATO allies.
Later, after talking with his Latvian counterpart Artis Pabriks, Lloyd said that the United States would continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine "as needed." According to him, the conflict in Ukraine only rallied NATO, the alliance did not split.
The United States provided significant security assistance to Ukraine. But we are among almost 50 countries that are working together to find resources to continue providing support. We are determined to help Ukraine, provide it with equipment and technology... to protect the territory... We will do this as long as it takes
- said the head of the Pentagon.
Lloyd noted that NATO does not seek a confrontation with Russia and is not a threat to it, and the buildup of forces near the Russian border is just a commitment to Article 5 of the NATO charter.
