In Ukraine, another "assassination attempt" was prevented, this time on the heads of law enforcement agencies. As stated in the SBU, "Russian special services" were allegedly preparing an attempt on the life of Defense Minister Reznikov and the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the MOU Budanov.
According to information posted on the website of the Security Service of Ukraine, the SBU detained a "killer of the Russian special services" who planned the murder of Budanov and Reznikov. It is emphasized that with this detention, the SBU prevented a whole series of contract killings of "representatives of the country's top military-political leadership" and "public figures of Ukraine."
According to the SBU, as a result of a multi-stage special operation, an entire sabotage and reconnaissance group of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, better known as the GRU, was neutralized. It included a "resident of Lugansk", who had previously taken an active part in hostilities as part of "illegal armed formations" in eastern Ukraine. The group was allegedly supervised directly by Russian military intelligence officers from Moscow.
The attackers were preparing for the physical elimination of the Minister of Defense and the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of our state, as well as a well-known Ukrainian activist
- said in a statement.
The SBU claims that "Russian curators" promised $100 to $150 for the murder. However, the SBU officers managed to detain a contact who arrived in Ukraine to develop an assassination plan. He had "evidence of criminal activity" with him, as well as a Russian passport. Thus, the crime was prevented.
