Export missile "305E" at the forum "Army-2021"

As part of the current Special Operation, the Russian military aviation actively uses a wide range of guided and unguided weapons, incl. latest designs. So, recently it became known that combat helicopters use a light multi-purpose guided missile, known as the "Product 305" or LMUR, for some targets.

New weapon

On June 19, military commander Alexander Kots posted on his Telegram channel a new video showing the use of precision-guided munitions against enemy targets in the Bakhmut direction. The video is a screen recording of a carrier helicopter and actually shows the use of missile weapons through the eyes of a pilot-operator. At the same time, part of the screen interface is hidden for privacy reasons.

The video included footage of the use of two air-to-surface missiles. The flight of the product to a ground target is shown, and the shooting was carried out by an optoelectronic homing head, and the video signal was transmitted to the carrier. The video shows how the missile holds the reticle on the target and aims at it. An instant before hitting the intended object, the recording is interrupted.

The type of missiles used was not reported, but the first assumptions and estimates soon appeared. So, based on the available data, a number of specialized resources suggested that the light multi-purpose missile LMUR or "305" was used. In addition, it was noted that the carrier helicopter used weapon in the "ISL AS-UAV" mode. This indicated the use of the Mi-28NM helicopter with modern equipment, and also indirectly confirmed the use of LMUR missiles.

Flight to the target, shooting the GOS rocket

Already on June 20, new details appeared. RIA News, referring to his informed source, confirms the use of the new missile "305" in the Special Operation. Mi-38MN helicopters are indeed used as the carrier of this weapon. The target for LMUR is important ground targets of the enemy, such as ammunition depots or fuel and lubricants. The missile is highly accurate and has several guidance modes, which simplifies the solution of combat missions.

The Ministry of Defense has not yet officially confirmed the use of LMUR, but has not denied it either. Perhaps this kind of information will appear later. However, such weapons are quite capable of solving the assigned tasks and helping the processes of demilitarization of Ukraine even without an official announcement.

Unclassified missile

According to known data, the future LMUR missile was developed by the Kolomna Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering in the first half of the tenth years. It is curious that the Federal Security Service, and not the Ministry of Defense, as usual, acted as the customer for the product. The 305 missile was intended for the FSB aviation and was to be used with special modifications of the Mi-8 helicopter.

The project was completed by the middle of the decade, after which the "305" passed the necessary tests and was recommended for the series. The production of missiles for the FSB began in 2016. By this time, the Russian Air Force also became interested in the project, also wanting to get a modern light aircraft missile. After the necessary checks and procedures, the LMUR entered service.

According to various sources, since 2016-17. 305 rockets were regularly used in firing practice. In addition, from a certain time they were used by our helicopters as part of the operation in Syria. However, the details remained unknown. There were only a few mentions.

The official premiere of LMUR took place only last year. At the military-technical forum "Army-2021", the export version of the 305E missile was shown. Also, for the first time, the tactical and technical characteristics of the product were disclosed. The export version of the missile attracted the attention of visitors, but orders for such a weapon have not yet been reported.

According to the latest news, "Product 305" can be used in the current Special Operation to protect Donbass. Perhaps the Ministry of Defense will soon reveal details about the use of such weapons and confirm existing estimates and assumptions.

Lightweight multi-purpose

"305" / LMUR is an air-to-surface missile of limited dimensions and weight. It is intended to destroy a wide range of ground targets, stationary and mobile, incl. with previously unknown coordinates. The missile has high performance characteristics and has several modes of operation, which ensures high efficiency.

The rocket is built in a cylindrical body and has a hemispherical transparent nose fairing. X-shaped rudders are placed in the head part, and a folding wing in the tail. The length of the rocket is 1,945 m, the body diameter is 200 mm. Starting weight - 105 kg. Warhead - high-explosive fragmentation weighing 25 kg.

A second before hit

The product is equipped with a solid propellant engine. With its help, speeds up to 230 m / s are developed and a controlled flight range of at least 14,5 km is achieved. Depending on the selected mode, the flight is carried out at an altitude of 100 to 600 m above the ground.

LMUR is distinguished by a rather complex and effective guidance system. On board there are inertial and satellite navigation devices, as well as an optical-electronic guidance head. The missile can operate on a fire-and-forget basis or communicate with the carrier. In the latter case, a video signal from the GOS and telemetry are transmitted to the carrier, and commands can be sent back, incl. with redirection in flight.

The LMUR missile is intended for use by helicopters. Its first carrier was special modifications of the multi-purpose Mi-8. Army aviation uses such weapons together with Mi-28NM attack helicopters and, probably, with Ka-52 of the original and modernized version. The suspension is carried out on APU-305 launchers, one or two missiles.

For the full use of such weapons, the helicopter requires AS-UAV equipment. It is used to interact with unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles of various types, incl. with "Product 305". In particular, this system is responsible for receiving the video signal and transmitting commands to the missile.

Useful acquisition

In general, the 305 multi-purpose missile is one of the most successful and useful models that have entered service with our Air Force in recent years. High flight characteristics and advanced guidance aids make it possible to solve a wide range of tasks, and also provide important advantages over other modern missile weapons.

The LMUR missile was originally developed for combat helicopters. Its design, principles of operation and application are optimized for use on rotorcraft carriers with all their features. In particular, current trends in the development of on-board equipment and sighting and navigation systems are taken into account. This allows you to get better results of combat use.

"Product 305" is subsonic, but has an increased flight range - 14,5 km. In this regard, LMUR is superior to other modern missiles of its class. The increase in range allows the helicopter to attack a ground target with minimal risk to itself.

New guidance equipment is of great importance. The rocket has instruments with different functions, which gives several modes of operation. Thanks to this, it becomes possible to choose the optimal mode of operation and attack, depending on the tactical situation, the characteristics of the target and threats.

A high-explosive fragmentation warhead weighing 25 kg was used. This is enough to defeat manpower or unprotected equipment tens of meters away. The use of a rocket on buildings is shown, although without demonstrating the result of their undermining. Also, the warhead is capable of destroying armored vehicles and fortifications, and high targeting accuracy increases the likelihood of a successful attack.

Thus, in terms of the combination of technical and combat characteristics, the new 305 missile turns out to be a convenient and successful tool for solving various combat missions. At the same time, the new LMUR complements other weapons of combat helicopters, which has a positive effect on the flexibility of using army aviation as a whole. And the Air Force is actively using the new opportunities obtained along with the promising missile.

A very necessary thing for SVO. But it is probably expensive and there are few of them, but mass application is needed.

Well, if we easily allow ourselves to lose 300 billion in foreign currency, then bargaining is not appropriate here .. There is money! This means expanding production and massively using dofig targets if necessary, and given the 25kg warhead, it will be the most in case of defeat, unlike the old ATGMs.

Although not the latest news, but still very good! With the use of these missiles, the survivability and effectiveness of our helicopters will increase noticeably, although even now the losses are not far from catastrophic.

Unusual, but not extraordinary. With a rifleman, this is all the time. And the KGB ordered ocean-class ships in general.

Everything you need appears to be there. Only questions arise at the same time: why is this "ALL" not used en masse in order to suppress and destroy those Ukronazis who are shelling Donetsk and Gorlovka?

did you even read the article? This air-to-surface missile has just passed the test. The presented copies were quite possibly the installation batch.
Regarding Donetsk, take the calculator in hand and count: from Staromikhaylovka (where ukroart usually hides) to the outskirts of Donetsk is about 20 km. In order to destroy the artillery mounts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine there, we need to go to the missile launch line either above the line of contact, or even going deep into enemy territory. Where the risks of being destroyed are very high.

Actually, the article says that "product 305" has been in the series since 2016. True, by order of the FSB.
But this does not cancel the questions to the MO. And if the rejection of the initial work on this missile can still be explained by the failure to meet deadlines (although this did not stop the faces), then the non-order of a product already tested and verified by the "neighbors" (and in a combat situation), which really has no analogues, is a flight.

with all due respect to Cyril, let's define the concepts of what "in the series" means. State tests of this missile were to be completed only this year. Therefore, up to this point, there can be no question of any "series". We won’t even guess what the FSB has and why :) As part of the R&D, the developer + manufacturer can (and are usually obliged by R&D conditions) to produce an experimental / pilot batch. These copies didn’t care in Syria, they didn’t care in Ukraine. Now there will be a question (on the fact of successful testing and adoption for service) about the deployment of production. As a person who has been observing this for more than a year, I can safely say that this year LMUR will not appear in Ukraine in the amount required for combat use. Because we do not have a war, it means that the military-industrial complex lives according to the civil state defense order. That is, the budget does not include funds for the purchase of missiles. Most likely. God forbid, this year they will be able to deploy production at their own and subcontractors. request

It seems I understood what the problem is - the army simply has other carriers of the "product 305". Therefore, they were forced to re-test not the rocket itself, but the entire complex.
State tests of the modernized Ka-52M combat helicopter with the new long-range cruise missile "Product 305" should be completed by October 2022.

And what to do with ammunition that is nearing the end of its shelf life? The process of factory disposal of the same artillery shell costs, as it were, not even more than the production of a new one. That is, it is much more profitable to shoot old ammunition (during exercises or a real combat operation) than to dispose of it. I would not be surprised that the situation is similar with missiles (and this despite the fact that missiles with an expiring shelf life probably have characteristics that are significantly inferior to those of newer models).
Therefore, when solving military problems, they try to use primarily ammunition (including missiles), which would soon have to be disposed of.

Application new modern ammunition is justified only in three cases:
      - it must be tested in real combat conditions (for example, after launching into a series or some kind of refinement) in order to gain experience in use and, if necessary, refine it to increase efficiency or reduce the requirements for the level of fighters preparing or using ammunition (or even give up unclaimed characteristics for the sake of reducing the cost and simplifying production);
      - in the place where the task is to be solved, it is not possible to use weapons / equipment in the amount necessary to guarantee the completion of the task with "disposable" ammunition, and at the same time there is no time to saturate the attacking unit with them. This can also include logistical restrictions (for example, one new ammunition is able to solve a problem that would require the use of 4 "disposable" ammunition - with a limited supply, it makes sense to bring 12 new ammunition instead of 12 "disposable" ones and solve three times as many tasks);
      - ammunition with an expiring shelf life is running out, while the long-term strategy for the use of weapons by the state does not imply the complete replacement of cheap "obsolete type" ammunition with new models (even those with high efficiency - but their incomparably higher cost limits the possibility of mass use) - that is, ammunition with a large residual shelf life, it makes sense to "hold it for the future." Thus, the efficiency / cost criterion comes to the fore, in which the costs of replenishing weapons of destruction can play in favor of the use of precisely new ammunition.

The conditions for the use of 305 missiles most likely fall under the first category of use (as well as the Su-57) ...

A sort of weapon of point-precession elimination of especially important targets. By the way - it seems to me that the choice of a helicopter as a platform for such a product is not very successful. The helicopter target is quite noticeable - its EPR is large, it flies low, it is overall, unhurried (relative to jet aircraft), we detect it in advance by engine sounds.

the cost of LMUR is probably not much more expensive than the 9K121M missile. And the last one is being hammered by everything, including lightly armored vehicles. But LMUR, unlike the "Whirlwind", has 5 times more power (4,5 kg of explosives versus 25). Competes in this with X-50 or UPAB-50. Accordingly, it can be used against not only structures of the "dugout" level, but also well attached to a field warehouse or lay down some kind of house with a command post.
As for the carrier, there are no UAVs for them yet. For Orion it is heavy. Yes, they developed their own line of guided munitions for him. For a helicopter operating with a leading edge, this rocket will work just fine. Taking into account the flight range and not demanding flight mode (like Attack or Whirlwind)

do not forget the guidance equipment, APU, etc. For example, a helicopter GOES weighs more than 300 kg. I do not know the weight of the beam holder for LMUR, but for a combat aircraft its weight reaches 148 kg. In addition, we understand that there is a rule: "more weight - less range, worse controllability, lower flight altitude." And what is the point of Orion having one racket if there are X-50, KAB-50 and UPAB-50 provided for him.

Nope. The MO began work on a long-range helicopter missile, but because of its greed, it almost killed it.
And the FSB got involved later. She needed a tool for point work from long ranges (so as not to jeopardize the performers and not to frighten away the target), so, after the topic was closed by the military, Lubyanka opened funding along its line, slightly supplementing the TK. And I received the "product 305" already in 2015.

According to known data, the future LMUR missile was developed by the Kolomna Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering in the first half of the tenth years. It is curious that the Federal Security Service, and not the Ministry of Defense, as usual, acted as the customer for the product.

According to known data The Ministry of Defense acted as the initial customer of this missile - then the product was number 79. But then the military began to save on matches, not accepting and not paying for the already completed stages of work, and then they completely covered the topic.
Initially, the development of product 79 was initiated by the Ministry of Defense, but due to greed and stupidity, the work was actually "frozen" for several years.
A relatively small number of samples were ordered for testing, funding is typical for MO - a small advance, and payments at the end of the R&D stages.
In view of the failure to meet the deadlines (because of the MO, without details - this is such a failure, just an anecdote), the stages were not signed and paid for. The topic could really die out and close, and never reach the test.

Fortunately for the developers, the fallen banner was picked up by the faces, who allocated funding and slightly changed the TK - the office demanded the introduction of a third control mode, in which the operator could already in flight cancel the target acquisition and redirect the missile to another object (to avoid the situation "sorry, wrong house number / cars"). The result was "product 305".
Another customer "spied" this development, assessed the possibilities and ordered it for himself.
The original TK made additions (added a radio link - to control the target and the ability to "withdraw" at the last moment, if the intelligence was not correct).
The launch mode for an unobserved target was not considered due to the specifics of the "work" of the customer.
The item number has changed to "item 305".
Several times more products were ordered. The issue of financing was removed - 100% advance payment of all work (all stages) at once, at once.
In fact, the development and testing was paid for and accepted by another customer.
The Ministry of Defense then read off the test results of the "product 305". The Defense Ministry almost got a rocket for free, almost without risking anything (the investments were several times less), if the topic "did not go" (there were really a lot of difficulties and problems, they went straight along the edge).

The first pictures of the FSB-shnogo Mi-8MNP-2 with APU-305 date back to 2015. True, at that time, none of those who took and saw the pictures did not know what the "PU with a plate" was for, so they did not pay much attention to them.

Now about the essence. You have a certain and extremely small number of units of military equipment, for example 600. Their required number was calculated to minimally cover the tasks of the defense capability of our not small (17 million square kilometers) country. Now the special operation begins. A dilemma arises: on the one hand, you understand that it is effective to use aviation, and on the other hand, you will never get a full-fledged destruction of enemy air defense. Because borders are open. It is possible to suppress enemy air defense by making it ineffective, but this will require the involvement of the entire air group of the country with a forecast of losses of more than 30% of the flight fleet. That is, after the special operation, you will have not 600 combat vehicles left, but only 400. Half of the remaining ones will have exhausted their resource and will have to be put on capital, that is, retirement will be from a couple of months to a year. What will happen in the moment with the country's defense capability? Are you ready at this moment to hammer a bolt on it in order to solve a problem that has several other solutions? Try to answer

Everything is simple. The loot was used, which is on the accounts of the special services and has not yet been involved in the case.

Yes, what a mess. Stop smoking. Weed. From greed they don’t quit, but they grab everything. And secondly, the FSB does not destroy, this is not their specificity. They pick it up and take it home. It is important not to fuck someone doubtfully, unprovenly and not guaranteed, but, quite clearly, to see how he (it) is sitting in your Lubyanka. Complicated chess operations are done only with absolute certainty....

Yeah, yeah, it doesn’t destroy - it’s called in the media liquidation of militants.
And the NAR and PU blocks under the UR (including the APU-305) are installed on FSB helicopters purely for beauty.

And a little more about the aviation equipment of the FSB aviation.
... as the press service of the Stavropol and Nevinnomyssk diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church reported on April 8, 2018, on the eve of the Easter holiday, at the request of the commander of the aviation group of military unit 2464, the dean of the Olginsky district, Archpriest Evgeny Piperkov, consecrated new combat helicopters received by the unit.

Yes, this is Mi-35M. And he's not alone.

And military unit 2464 is the 2nd joint aviation detachment of the Federal Security Service (FSB of Russia).

Oooh, well, finally articles about 305 have gone
Recently, by the way, I talked with a person who took part in the development of the GOS for this product.
As for the electronic filling - yes, it is imported, not all, but still. This is not because they don’t do this with us, they just do it with us and sometimes it’s better in terms of characteristics (the same conders work for us from - 85, and they work from - 40), but alas, it doesn’t work very often in terms of dimensions. And in a rocket, especially with calibers less than 100mm, you fight for every cubic centimeter of space.
P.S.: Imported, by the way, we have purchased a strategic stock, even before our

And if the tt-engine is replaced with a piston or electric one, and the aerodynamics are slightly improved (a larger wing), then you can quickly get a barrrrrrrrazhing ammunition, also known as a kamikaze drone. To suppress arta, it will be the most.

I don’t believe it, nonsense and lies, rockets like R-73 and AIM-9 in the same weight category are supersonic and can fly up to 20 km, but not subsonic, or again the laws of physics have changed.

Haven't changed. You somehow missed that the warhead is three times heavier.

Yes, a 25 kg warhead is a weighty argument, but the aerodynamics are poor, a thick body, a “blunt snout” of a fairing, a reduced charge of solid propellant rocket motors due to a heavy warhead, all this reduces the aerodynamic quality and increases the drag coefficient with all the ensuing consequences.

That's right, look at the aspect ratio of the hull, the weight of the warhead is 15 kg with a starting weight of 98 kg and a range of up to 50 obtained only when launched from a helicopter and at altitudes of 2000 meters or more, as well as the presence of INS with GPS allows you to optimize the flight path for a long range.

Depending on the selected mode, the flight is carried out at an altitude of 100 to 600 m above the ground.

And what nonsense is this, it’s like a KR with a turbofan.

For example, the AGM-114 is also not a KR with a turbofan. That does not prevent her from having DIR, HI and LO flight profiles.

For AGM-114 missiles, the dependence of the parabola of the quasi-hinged trajectory on the range, that is, the higher the range, the greater the angle of incidence of the missile, can be seen in YouTube videos. The closer, the more flat the flight path, and this is equal to all missiles with solid propellant rocket engines, with the exception of the MM-38 anti-ship missiles / 39/40 Exoset, there is a marching solid propellant rocket engine and it works for about 110 seconds and 30% of the final trajectory passes in planning to the target, with a flight range of 42 km to 70 km, with a weight of up to 870 kg.
The advantages of solid propellant rocket engines are low cost and simplicity, but there are disadvantages.

What I wrote, the dependence of height on range, at short ranges they leave due to acceleration while the solid propellant rocket engine is working and the trajectory is flat, but the solid propellant rocket engine works for a few seconds.
And it is not entirely correct to compare the AGM-114 ATGM, which weighs more than half as much and has a maximum flight speed of 425 m / s, and a range of up to 8 km.

              And what is this nonsense

This was said for the presence of different-altitude modes of operation.

dependence of altitude on range, at short ranges they leave due to acceleration while the solid propellant rocket engine is operating and the trajectory is flat, but the solid propellant rocket engine works for several seconds.

It does not answer in any way why the presence of several flight profiles for a rocket with solid propellant rocket motors is nonsense.
And it is not entirely correct to compare the AGM-114 ATGM, which weighs more than half as much and has a maximum flight speed of 425 m / s, and a range of up to 8 km.

Weight and size and other performance characteristics are not related to the need and use of different flight profiles. Exclusively with the terms of use and tactics of use.

Depending on the selected mode, the flight is carried out at an altitude of 100 to 600 m above the ground.
