Bandera armored uniques of the special operation "Z"

Experienced BMP "Kevlar-E", assembled on the basis of self-propelled guns "Gvozdika", which, in turn, was built on the basis of MTLB

Armored vinaigrette a la Bandera

Ukraine inherited an extensive armored economy, including both a fleet of serial vehicles and remarkable competencies in the construction tanks. Now, when Russia with its high-precision weapons and artillery is gradually destroying the military-technical potential of the enemy, Ukrainian nationalists have to throw their last reserves into battle. Based on open sources, we tried to collect the most unusual and interesting examples of Bandera armored vehicles.

The gallery should start with the most innocent model in the Armed Forces of Ukraine - the BMM-4S medical armored vehicle, one copy of which was “trophied” by the allied forces. The product is built on the basis of the Bucephalus BTR-4E and is distinguished by a three-dimensional module for accommodating the wounded. According to the developer (Kharkov Bureau of Mechanical Engineering), the BMM can carry up to ten wounded and three crew members - a driver, an orderly and a doctor.

The car has a bad history. Eight years ago, 42 medical transporters for the Iraqi army were manufactured in Kharkov. It should be noted that the machines were built according to the principle "and so it will do." As a result, even for unpretentious Iraqis, the terrible quality of armored vehicles turned out to be critical, and the entire batch went back to Ukraine. The fate of the Iraqi vehicles is not completely known, but at least 14 vehicles served in the National Guard and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At least one of them is now working for the allied forces.

An even rarer Ukrainian armored vehicle is the mine-clearing combat vehicle (BMR-1/2) on the T-64A platform. There are only three such sapper tanks in the whole of Ukraine, one of which joined the ranks of trophies of the Russian army. This is a modern interpretation of the old Soviet vehicles BMR-1 and BMR-2, created on the basis of the SU-122-54 and T-54B, respectively. Engineering tanks have proven themselves well in Afghanistan and, of course, will find their place among the trophies of the allied forces in the Donbass.

The only experienced Ukrainian infantry fighting vehicle "Kevlar-E", built on the basis of the self-propelled gun 2C1 "Carnation", can be considered a real exclusive. In Kharkov, the self-propelled guns got rid of the 122-mm guns, and instead they installed the Shturm module with a 30-mm automatic cannon, which is also used on Ukrainian armored personnel carriers. The construction of an infantry fighting vehicle on the platform of an artillery gun is not accidental - the Gvozdika itself is based on the MTLB tractor. That is, we can say that Ukrainian engineers simply returned the product to its place. Naturally, the Kevlar-E armor was strengthened, and the troop compartment was designed for 6 people. Bandera used an experienced infantry fighting vehicle in the Kharkov region, but at the moment nothing is known about the fate of the vehicle.

It is not easy to determine exactly whether the next sample belongs to one or another type of armored vehicles. What will happen if a twin ZU-4-55 is installed on the engineering BTS-23, which, we recall, is built from T-2? Let's call this creation Bandera's "Terminator". The conversion of obsolete engineering equipment into fire support vehicles has become a fairly common occurrence in Ukraine. In addition to the BTS-4, demining machines UR-77 and again self-propelled guns "Gvozdika" are used for autogenous and welding. At least one such strike BTS-4 with the name "Bereg" was among the trophies of the allied forces.

The next tank is quite difficult to identify with the naked eye. Meanwhile, the T-72AMT, modernized by the Kyiv Armored Plant, is a very interesting machine. And rare - before the special operation in Ukraine, there were only thirty-six of these tanks. It is reliably known that Bandera lost a pair of T-72AMTs near Chernigov, and one in good condition went from near Kyiv to Kubinka for a detailed study.

Many commentators on the Web claim that in the photographs, among the scraps of Ukrainian tank armor, you can see several more dead vehicles of this modification. Among the design bonuses are imported radio communications, the infamous Knife dynamic protection, a remote-controlled module with a 12,7-mm machine gun and a new fire control system. Some experts claim that the T-72AMT is approaching the Russian T-72B3 in terms of combat effectiveness.

Of course, the self-propelled 120-mm mortar BTR-3M2 belongs to the category of rare enemy animals of the special operation "Z". Until February 24, Bandera had no more than 8 cars in service. Now most of them have either been destroyed, for example, in Mariupol, or are fighting as part of the LDNR forces.

Another rare tank of Ukrainian nationalists is the T-64B1M. These are the so-called "African" cars built before 2014 for the Congo. But after the Maidan, all the equipment was requisitioned for the needs of the ATO.

The tank turned out to be cheap (no more than 200 thousand dollars) and did not undergo significant alterations. They say that the car was equipped with a built-in dynamic protection instead of a hinged one, and also a spacious aft niche was welded on. In total, there were no more than 10 tanks in the National Guard, of which most had already died in Mariupol or were completely gone.

The story about the tanks of Mariupol will be incomplete if you do not tell about the T-64A, on which the militants fought. What is special about it, the reader asks? The fact is that the tank was removed from the pedestal at the Azovmash plant and sent into battle. Most likely, even the engine was not changed.

In general, this fact is undeservedly overlooked. The car stood in the open air for a decade, survived only cosmetic repairs, but if necessary, it turned out to be a completely combat-ready unit. The T-64A has a capricious and imperfect 5TDF diesel engine, which was not reliable even during routine maintenance. But in 2022, the monument started up and went into battle. How is this story not a hymn to the Soviet design school of tank building?

There is a lot of Soviet technology in Ukraine, so the field for creativity is practically unlimited. One of these factory handicrafts was the BMP-1TS with the combat module "Spis" or "Spear" - in Russian. An imported Motorola DM-4601 radio station was installed on the armored vehicle, and the module was equipped with a 30-mm cannon, a thermal imager, and an AG-17 grenade launcher; 7,62 mm PKT machine gun and homegrown Barrier ATGM. Locally increased the booking of jobs for the driver and commander. This is a fresh modification of the well-deserved "one", she entered the troops only last year. At least 10 such infantry fighting vehicles served Bandera, at least one of which was destroyed near Volnovakha. It is alleged that the deceased BMP-1TS was assigned to the "Aidarovtsy" from the 53rd mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Further continuation of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine does not bode well for the Kyiv regime. In addition to problems of a strategic scale, huge losses of armored vehicles come to the fore, which no lend-lease can cover. Banderists are forced to change to equipment that is completely unsuitable for the realities of the special operation. But more on that in the next post.

Judging by the well-known Report of the KCPN, it is very bad in the NM with running regular medical MTLBs. So any new car is welcome there.

I have a question. Why did the author call the Knife infamous?
    1. +2
      12 June 2022 13: 29
In "Popular Mechanics" there was an article about remote sensing. It was written about the Knife that, as planned, she was supposed to chop the BPS core into pieces. In fact, this was exactly what happened, only the core continued to fly these fragments one after another, and the effect of hitting such a crushed core did not differ much from hitting a whole one.
The article was a long time ago, so I can not provide a link. hi

Yes, he is not sad in any way, the author simply does not know. The knife is a continuation of the project of the Research Institute "Steel", "Corrugation", and tests were carried out just with the Kharkov plant, so the documentation in Ukraine remained. "Knife" working protection is only unpromising. Briefly " Knife "works only on head-on courses and for a longer time, which still leads to penetration, and the same" Contact-5 "works on head-on courses and in pursuit and in a shorter time, which is much more effective. This, by the way, was confirmed by tests and in the USA and Germany.

Here it would have been necessary sometime, at one time, not limited to a decorative mesh, to go to the end and make a monument for the modification of the "t-34 shielded" equipment - T-34E: it was such a successful modification of a tank with an unfortunate fate. If it had turned out a little differently, screens would have become mandatory on mass-produced tanks 70 years earlier and saved many lives of Soviet soldiers and citizens even during the assaults on German cities.

About the T-64A, taken from the pedestal of Azovstal, as I understand it, it was captured. And here is a dual feeling. On the one hand, it is, as it were, stained by the Azov people and can then be sent for remelting. On the other hand, it’s not the car’s fault that its enemies used it, perhaps until the end of the NWO it will also help ours. And then repair and put back on the same pedestal.

Well, here, first of all, you need to understand how, under the USSR, tanks were installed on pedestals, as monuments. This was done by the military, who had previously had tanks in the state. The tank was delivered to the installation site on its own or (if somewhere far away) on a trailer. Cranes did not work. It was just that an inclined race was mounted on the pedestal, after which the tank, under the control of an experienced mechanical driver, drove on its own on the pedestal. Next, the tank was fixed on a pedestal, the battery was removed from it, fuel and coolant were drained. Everything else that needed to be removed was filmed even before that (in the BM park) ... After that, the hatches were closed and welded in places ....
It was in this way that the T-34-85 tank was installed at the entrance to the town of our tank division (in SAVO).
Therefore, if the reverse procedure is carried out, it is not surprising that the tank will start ...
In Lugansk, the T-34-85 tank was first removed and brought back in 2013 ..., since then, before every May 9th, it has been removed from the pedestal to participate in the Victory Parade ..., and after the 9th it is installed on place.

This is where the original CBO scenario burned out. Then it was also believed that only the national battalions would be ideologically motivated units capable of resisting. And all the other ideologies do not adhere, they do not like the government, and in general - they are not to blame for anything and immediately bayonets to the ground.
In short, SFV in all its glory.
The harmful prejudice was deeply rooted that the supposedly population of the countries entering the war with the USSR would inevitably, and almost without exception, rise and go over to the side of the Red Army, that the workers and peasants would meet us with flowers. This false belief arises from ignorance of the actual situation in neighboring countries. The war in Finland showed that we did not conduct political intelligence in the northern regions and therefore did not know with what slogans to go to this population and how to conduct work among them. We often treated the peasants as a working class, but it turns out that this peasant is a big fist, a Shutskorovets, and he reacts in his own way. Collision with reality demagnetizes our fighter and commander, who is used to viewing the population of foreign countries from a general - superficial point of view.

It just turned out, in fact, that Wehrmacht from the SS The APU is no different from the NSU. And purposefully shelling residential areas of even former Ukrainian cities is not at all Westerners with a portrait of St. Bandera in the bosom, and "cooks" and "drivers" from the regular army. And our captives are tortured and killed by the APU soldiers in the same way.

BUT I would like more, where the BMP 64, BMP-K-64, BMPT "Barrier", an assault floating "vehicle" sent for study in the Russian Federation. I wouldn’t say that everything is bad. On the contrary, for example, a mortar based on an armored personnel carrier, the conversion of old tanks into infantry fighting vehicles, it’s worth taking a closer look here. Yes, the level of execution is lame, but the idea itself is quite acceptable. The enemy also has something to learn

A mortar based on an armored personnel carrier is a meaningless design. An expensive and complex chassis is used for a mortar of dubious capabilities. If we bring the Phlox self-propelled guns to serial production, this will be a much more reasonable option. There will be self-propelled guns based on a passable truck with an armored crew cab, outriggers for stability and the possibility of direct fire.
Roughly speaking, it is easier to put a mortar on the chassis of a truck crane, install armored shields and armor the cabin than to spoil the armored personnel carrier.

Tell that to the NATO countries. The Yankees even released a "Stryker" in a mortar version. smile
A self-propelled mortar on an armored chassis unified with the equipment of the battalion is the dream of our military. Because regular "Sleds" have all the shortcomings of towed artillery - a long clotting time (either roll the mortar into the body or take it on a trailer, but then the speed is not more than 20 km / h), the lack of protection of the calculation and the conveyor from splinters.
It's just that our army team wanted everything at once - not just a self-propelled mortar on an armored wheeled chassis, but a turret "Nona" in the version for the ground forces. Well, we got a goldfish 2S23, standing like 1/7 MBT.

Unlike the Ukrainian version, there is a mortar module with recoil devices. And again, why cite as an example the "Sled" or the wheeled "Nona". Try to explain how "Phlox" will be worse than mounting on an armored personnel carrier, having an equally unified and much cheaper platform.
And abroad, there are not only mortars based on armored personnel carriers, but even light wheeled tanks, but this does not mean the need to imitate.

In this case, the mortar of the classical scheme on a self-propelled base, provided that it is equipped with ASUNO and self-binding systems, allows you to effectively operate when the enemy uses modern counter-battery weapons (for example, AFADTS, of which there are more than 5 thousand sets in the American army).

Those. where they could, they saved money (muzzle loading, SM cannot support infantry with direct / semi-direct fire), but ASUNO, automatic aiming and aiming recovery systems make the SM very resistant to counter-battery combat.

The topic is not open. Why did she “cut” someone there. What is sadness?
Congo sad did they get their money back? Or Maidanuli?
The fact is that the tank was removed from the pedestal and ... started

In Russia, it would be nice to make cords for the infantry on the bass of the old men of the 55s and 62s, as in Israel at one time.
A couple of hundred wouldn't hurt.
Half measure, of course, but, as an option for not having anything else.

      And there were projects...
Eh ... Now they have even begun to install screens on part of the BMP-2. And have time to equip them and the BTR-82 with everything BEFORE the start of Z, as many advocated, re-equip the mts battalions of tank brigades and regiments with TBMP on the T-55/72, strengthen the mts battalion. separate companies of the BMPT-72 and adding to the MTS. companies on BMPs with a fourth vehicle in each platoon and equipping all the boxes with something like the Israeli OTHELLO (enemy fire detection system) - it would be great. This is in addition to many other necessary and long-sounding "wishlist" (many of which are now hastily trying to close volunteers and promka). But come on about the "if", the main thing is that the conclusions and the necessary decisions have already been made.

There are some very good quality pieces. I especially liked the machine gun mount on the tank turret hatch with remote control from the commander's seat. It is desirable to extend such a development to all suitable armored vehicles, especially light ones in a modular version, for example, with or without full remote control.
There was also a development in the form of an automatic 82-mm mortar "Vasilek" with installation on the MTLB. Also a good idea, although it requires an additional conveyor for transporting ammunition. Moreover, the open location of the mortar is quite justified, since it cannot be removed from powder gases during internal installation. And if you modify the mortar for an enhanced charge, to increase the range, and equip it with an automated drive and guidance system, you get a rather formidable machine.

Not the worst solution, only the platform is rather weak, there must be retractable stops or a massive caterpillar platform.

DUBM "Crossbow". In combat units since 2017.

And on tanks, a remotely controlled ZPU was back in the days of the USSR - on the T-80UD.
      The T-90 also has it.
12.7 mm anti-aircraft machine gun NSVT-12.7 "Utes" (on tanks of the first series) or 6P49 "Kord" (mutually compatible in mounting, power and control) mounted on the roof of the tower with an electro-mechanical remote control system 1ETs29 with stabilization in the vertical plane and drives guidance (similar to that previously used on the T-64, you can fire with the hatch of the commander's cupola closed).
Ammunition - 300 rounds. (2 tapes of 150 pcs, the weight of one equipped magazine box is 25 kg)
12.7x108 cartridges are used with armor-piercing incendiary tracer (BZT), armor-piercing incendiary (B-32) and instantaneous incendiary (MDZ) bullets.
Sight - PZU-7.216.644 (optical monocular periscope, magnification 1.2x)
      Aimed fire range - up to 1600 m on targets at a speed of 100 to 300 m / s
Operating modes of the control system:
      - "Automatic" mode - vertical guidance angles from -4 to +20 degrees from the stabilized position of the mirror of the commander's observation device TKN-4S, guidance using an electric drive, automatic.
      - "Semiautomatic" mode - guidance using an electric drive, regardless of the position of the commander's observation device TKN-4S.
      - "Manual" mode - manual guidance without restrictions.
Horizontal guidance is carried out either manually or using an electric drive in the sector from 45 degrees to the left to 60 degrees to the right of the position of the main gun of the tank.

However, such a design does not allow us to consider the module truly universal. Manual mode is difficult, inconvenient and has limited firing angles. The machine gun with the help of an electric drive must be able to rotate circularly with the hatch.

If the hatch on a Ukrainian tank does not rotate around along with the machine gun, then I praised them too much.

The fate of the Iraqi vehicles is not completely known, but at least 14 vehicles served in the National Guard and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

They wrote that the Treshchinka armored personnel carrier, returned under an Iraqi contract, was the first to lay hands on NSU.
The Kramatorsk City Court, by a decision dated February 6, 2017, granted the petition of the investigator of the military prosecutor's office of the ATO forces for temporary access to things and documents of the State Enterprise “Kharkov Design Bureau for Mechanical Engineering named after. A.A. Morozov (KMDB). The prosecutor's office is investigating the criminal proceedings initiated on June 25, 2016 on the fact of the negligent attitude of officials of military unit 3005 of the National Guard of Ukraine to the service.
According to the production materials, in 2014 the military unit and KMDB signed contracts for the manufacture, supply and repair of BTR-4 armored personnel carriers and crew simulators, as well as for the repair of armored vehicles. The delivery price included a customs fee, although customs payments are collected in connection with the movement of goods across the customs border of Ukraine.
The court found that the armored vehicles sold to the National Guard were manufactured earlier and shipped in March 2013 to Iraq. She was not accepted and returned to Ukraine in April 2014. After finalizing this equipment and eliminating the identified defects, armored personnel carriers were delivered to military unit 2014 in May-June 3005.
The investigation also established that the actual cost of the delivered equipment is less than that provided for by the contract estimates. Thus, the National Guard overpaid about UAH 17 million from the state budget, of which payment for the elimination of defects amounted to UAH 7,7 million. and payment of customs duty - UAH 9,6 million.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine chuckled over such a choice, but when they received armored personnel carriers from the batch assembled for their own army from the factory, they realized how wrong they were - their quality was even worse.

The T-72AMT is generally not bad. To be honest, the somewhat dismissive attitude towards him on the part of the author is unjustified.

Advantages of T-72AMT relative to T72B3 mod 2011:
Nevertheless, the Knife is probably not worse than the Contact 5, which is hung with T72B3 mod 2011 and mod 2016. In addition, they obviously did not stint on anti-cumulative grilles on the T-72AMT, they are not at all on the T72B3 mod 2011. + there is a satellite navigation system, but GLONASS was not installed on the T72B3 mod 2011. As I understand it, a rear-view camera was also installed on the T-72AMT.
Remote control of a machine gun on the T-72AMT, on the T72B3 there is no such

Engines for T-72AMT and T72B3 mod 2011 of the same power

Advantages of T72B3 relative to T-72AMT:
Probably Sosna-U on the T72B3 is clearly better than the junk that is on the T-72AMT

So in general, the T-72AMT looks no worse than the T72B3 mod 2011, but worse than the T72B3 mod 2016

I don’t understand why again all these chuckles and expressions "Kunstkamera", "panopticon"? They also laughed for eight years, but when an article about our military vehicles with "armor" made of wood appeared here, it immediately became no laughing matter. Do we have a memory like a goldfish? We need to sort out our economy, and not look at how the mutants have it. Personally, sending the old T-62s there does not inspire me.
