Czech Republic sends MLRS RM-70 Vampire to Ukraine
87
Post-Soviet European states continue to supply combat systems created during the Soviet era for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. One of the countries supplying the army with independent is the Czech Republic: the country's authorities expect to get rid of the outdated weapons, and in return to receive new products from the United States.
In addition to armored vehicles, Prague transfers to the Kiev regime the RM-70 Vampire MLRS, developed on the basis of the BM-21 Grad and placed on a Tatra truck chassis with an 8x8 wheel arrangement. The large platform length compared to the basic version made it possible to place a hydraulic device on it, designed to recharge the entire NURS package. The crew cabin is armored. In total, at least 20 MLRS of this type have been transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine so far.
The conflict in Ukraine shows once again that rocket artillery remains a relevant means of destruction
- noted in the Czech edition of CZDefence.
At the same time, it is indicated that the need to purchase new MLRS is not spelled out in the strategic documents of the Czech army. Against this background, the local company Excalibur Army offers the possibility of installing a 70 mm RM-122 warhead on a Tatra 4x4 or 8x8 chassis. Although, given the current state of affairs with finances, it is likely that the Czech army, having transferred part of its arsenal to the Armed Forces, will not be able to replenish it.
