March 27 - Day of the Russian National Guard Troops

Today is a holiday at the National Guard - the Federal Service of the National Guard of the Russian Federation. This date was set quite recently - on March 27, 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree on the establishment of the Day of the National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation.

The Russian Guard is the successor to the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, which were reorganized in 2016. They were preceded by other forces of law and order that existed in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union, starting in 1811. March 27, 1811 is considered to be the date of foundation of the Russian internal guard troops. The corresponding decree was signed by Emperor Alexander I, so he is considered the founder of the Russian Guard troops.

The main purpose of the troops of the Russian Guard is to counter internal threats to national security, namely, attempts to forcibly overthrow the constitutional order, the activities of illegal armed groups, and terrorism. Soldiers of the units of the Russian Guard perform complex and responsible tasks in the fight against crime, extremism and terrorism, participate in a special operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine together with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Delivery of humanitarian aid to the liberated regions, protection of the most important strategic facilities, including nuclear power plants, participation in battles with nationalists - all these tasks are performed by the National Guard, showing examples of courage and heroism.

Today, solemn events will be held throughout Russia with the participation of the leadership and personnel of the National Guard. In Moscow, the top leadership of the structure will lay a wreath at the monument to the Russian Emperor Alexander I. They will also congratulate the soldiers of the National Guard who are doing their duty on the territory of Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has already addressed the Russian Guards with congratulations, he congratulated the employees on the Day of the National Guard, especially noting those participating in the special operation in Ukraine. According to him, there they act "courageously and professionally, skillfully, decisively and fearlessly." The President thanked them for their steadfastness and loyalty.
