UAV "Pacer" in flight

Not so long ago, an unmanned aviation complex "Inokhodets" with an aircraft for reconnaissance and strike purposes. For use with it, new types of weapons have been developed and are being produced. Now modern UAVs and TSAs are used in the framework of the Special Military Operation. On Drones assigned the task of searching and detecting targets with their subsequent defeat.

Drones on video

The Ministry of Defense regularly shows the processes and results of the combat use of modern weapons and equipment, and reconnaissance and strike UAVs are no exception. Several interesting videos have been published demonstrating the work of the Pacer and other modern designs.

The first video with Pacer was posted on March 4. The video began with a demonstration of the UAV in flight. A transport and launch container with an unnamed guided missile was suspended under the bottom. Then they demonstrated the processes of observation and search for a target using a regular optoelectronic station of the drone. After that, it was possible to observe the flight of the rocket and the defeat of the target - the enemy's command and observation post with manpower and vehicles.

The process of finding a goal. Frame from the video from March 4

On March 16, the Ministry of Defense showed the use of the Pacer and its weapons against fortifications and armored vehicles. The new video again showed the device in flight. They also showed the defeat of two ground targets. Guided missiles hit exactly the intended targets. Judging by the flashes and puffs of smoke, the enemy equipment was successfully destroyed. It is noted that in this flight the UAVs encountered difficult weather conditions, but this did not prevent the solution of the task.

In recent days, other similar videos have been published demonstrating the defeat of stationary structures and equipment. However, in these cases, the type of UAV used was not specified. In addition, in another video they showed the combat work of another reconnaissance and strike complex - Forpost-R. It can be assumed that in the near future other shootings of the use of strike UAVs of all combatant types will be published.

From design to application

The development of the future Pacer, also known as Orion, has been underway since the beginning of the last decade. Transas (hereinafter Kronstadt Group) was the lead contractor. In 2015-16 The first prototype was built and went to flight tests. An export version of the project was soon presented. At the end of 2019, the first Inohodets complexes were accepted into experimental military operation. The following year, the VKS officially accepted the equipment into operation.

Rocket hit. Presumably an X-UAV product

At the beginning of 2022, the Kronstadt Group commissioned a new plant for the serial production of several types of modern UAVs. One of the main types of its products is the Inohodets aircraft. Other elements of the complex are produced by other enterprises.

The product "Orion" / "Pacer" is the first domestic UAV of medium altitude and long duration of flight (MALE), which has passed all the tests and has been put into service. Initially, this drone was created for the purpose of conducting surveillance, monitoring and reconnaissance using a variety of means. In the later stages, shock capabilities were added to the project.

Tests of the reconnaissance-strike version of the Pacer began in 2018 at the test site. The following year, UAVs with weapons were tested in Syria. In parallel, the development, testing and fine-tuning of specialized weapons for drones was carried out.

In the future, new reconnaissance and strike systems were regularly used in various training events. Now they are entrusted with real combat missions within the framework of the Special Operation in Ukraine.

Thus, to date, all the main work on the Pacer has been completed. The complex went into series and is supplied in the part of the videoconferencing, and in addition, it has been mastered and used in real conditions. The troops get the opportunity to fully test and study all the functions of new equipment, as well as gain the necessary experience and improve the methods of its use. With all this, UAVs are involved in the defense of Donbass or Syria.

Technical potential

The Pacer is built according to the normal aerodynamic scheme and is equipped with a piston engine with a pusher propeller. The UAV has a thin fuselage and a straight wing with a large elongation, and is also equipped with a V-tail. The wingspan is more than 16 m. The maximum take-off weight exceeds 1 ton. Of these, up to 300 kg are payloads.

Due to the special aerodynamic shape of the UAV, it has high flight characteristics. The flight speed reaches 200 km / h, the ceiling - 7,5 km. Depending on the payload, the drone can stay in the air for up to a day. The radius of application for early modifications reaches 250-300 km. A new satellite communication complex is being created, due to which this parameter will increase significantly.

Preparing for an attack. Frame from the video from March 16

A number of different special loads have been developed for the Pacer. First of all, several optoelectronic stations for observation and reconnaissance with different characteristics are proposed. OES can be used both independently and in conjunction with another load. It is known about the work on the creation of a suspended radar station.

In the strike configuration, the main task of the Pacer is to destroy ground targets. For this, various bombs can be used, such as the OFAB-100-120 or the promising KAB-20 and KAB-50. A guided missile X-UAV has also been developed, which is a modified version of the Kornet anti-tank munition. During the tests, the possibility of its use on ground and air targets was shown. It is the X-UAV that is shown in the latest videos from the Ministry of Defense.

Benefits in practice

The Inohodets / Orion unmanned aerial system can rightly be considered one of the most successful recent acquisitions of our Aerospace Forces. UAVs of the MALE class have a number of characteristic advantages and capabilities, and now all of them are available to the Russian army.

"Pacer" is able to stay in a given area for a long time and conduct surveillance, and at any time of the day and in a wide range of weather conditions. Depending on the assigned tasks, it can identify ground targets, as well as direct fire weapons at them and correct their firing. In addition, independent destruction of the found objects is possible. With all this, the UAV is not the easiest target for enemy air defense, and its loss is not associated with serious material or moral damage.

The unmanned complex "Inohodets" is actually a convenient and effective multi-purpose tool for a wide range of tasks. He is able to work independently and in conjunction with other forces and means, air, land and sea. At the same time, UAVs can be used not only in military operations, but also in humanitarian monitoring and search missions.

Right now, you can observe the combat work of new complexes, and in the current Special Operation they use all the available functions. Depending on the needs of the troops, drones find and hit enemy targets. Some episodes of such work by Pacers have already been shown to the public. At the same time, it is obvious that the real combat score of these UAVs is much higher and is constantly growing, providing additional testing of all systems and products, gaining experience and solving the tasks of the Special Operation.

To everyone who makes claims to the optics of domestic UAVs, take a closer look! The image is in all cases coarse or intentional or recorded. And this is clearly seen in the fuzzy numbers and labels. They should be sharp on the monitor with any picture from the scene!
And thanks to the calculations of our UAVs for saving the lives of our pilots!

It's simple, the video that is posted is taken from recordings of objective controls, and not from filming a real monitor. And of course there is another resolution sufficient to fix the result, because in the SOC tools in this case the memory for fixing other parameters is more expensive.

Excellent work of unmanned systems! I saw a freight train heading west. Approximately 15 robots of the "uranium" type or similar were on it. It is strange that they were not sheathed! Apparently, it is being done specifically for the public in order to convey this to the "addressee". So ground-based "drones" are also being tested on the Nazis!

There is definitely a lag in optics .....
Daily matrices can be bought on the open market (even now). Already 4K car recorders are filming with might and main. But things are worse with IR matrices, in the Russian Federation a matrix of the previous generation 600x500 (approximately) has been mastered (and it’s good that it has been mastered), and modern ones already come with HD and 2K resolution ..... but how important is this for hitting targets like cars or a tank? You either see it at night or you don't see it at night.

        Not so bad:
The resolution of the matrix is actually 800x600 pixels with interpolation without compression up to 1024x720 pixels. These modules were developed by the Kazan JSC NPO GIPO, and the microprocessor Komdiv-64 (1890VM118) is responsible for image processing.

An export version of the project was soon presented.

This is what annoys the most ... In nature, a limited number of UAVs are produced, but they have already oriented themselves towards export ...
First, provide your own troops so that these UAVs hover over the enemy like flies, and then focus on exports ... And what, in fact, do manufacturers dream of acquiring from exports? Currencies wanted? So in Russia so:
Main parameters of Russia's external debt. According to the Central Bank, according to the results of the first half of 2020, the total volume of Russia's external debt amounted to $481 billion. Of this amount, almost 5% fell on the private sector, and 55% - on the public sector, in its expanded sense.

By the way, do you remember what difficulties Russia created when paying interest on servicing its external debt? And so:
The payment order for the transfer of coupon payments on Russian Eurobonds maturing in 2023 and 2043 was executed on March 16, the Russian Finance Ministry said on Thursday. The total amount of the transaction was $117,2 million. Citibank acted as the paying agent. The government clarified that the coupon was paid in foreign currency and there are no problems with servicing the public debt.

A good option. But there are a lot of "buts". Well, the most primitive. If the plant can produce 100 unmanned aerial vehicles, and the army buys only 50. Conditionally, of course, I cited the numbers.
Well, again. An army of conditional 100500 Pacers will buy, and then what? Stop production?

Have you ever wondered WHY so little was released until recently? Why is it so difficult to start mass production of UAVs? Like - no! So what's the question? And the question is that according to the requirements of the Moscow Region, ALL the main components there must be DOMESTIC! The only way! Otherwise, they will slap "sanctions" (as today) - and ku-ku to the project!
And for export, Orions could have been supplying BUT for 5 years already: with Rotax engines and Japanese electronics and German optics .... So that everyone did CORRECTLY (what they offered!), And in the meantime, the option "for themselves" to brought to mind....

I don't think you understand what permanent control is. They do not hang statically over the squares, but move. At the same time, they need to return to their base points. There is also day and night. At this time, there are various weather conditions, etc. Points to suppress them need to be identified. Having driven the complexes, let's say, through the forests and disguising them well, you will be lured by their UAVs and find them by other means. There are hangars, warehouses, and other buildings where they can be covered. Get it at the right time. Everything is not so simple in this life, and even more so in this theater of operations. This is not the world of tanks. Everything works a little more complicated than you think.

You don’t need every meter, but the possible direction of the coordinates of the enemy’s location, God forbid, 1x100 from the area, and considering that under both physical and visual control, you can safely consider 1x100 000m and it’s completely controlled by drones perhaps considering the means of space reconnaissance, aviation, undercover, etc. .. and this just speaks of the degree of professionalism of the Armed Forces and headquarters in particular .. The same claims were made about Syria when the lack of intelligence data did not allow the use of all striking means .. For many years attention was paid to this, and judging by the conclusions that are now being made, the RF Ministry of Defense did not make any trouble with both intelligence and defeat, and given the reports about the regular heroism of individual units and subunits, there are serious questions about the awareness of the leadership of the operation and miscalculations in planning it .. You constantly hear reports of battles with superior enemy forces .. How is that? Who did the reconnaissance? Who developed planned operations? Why do our units fight for days in an environment? More than questions..

Judging by the way ours covered the Tochek-U launchers, which delivered (more precisely: tried to strike) a blow to Melitopol, their missilemen, yes, feel quite at ease. In black plastic bags.

        Yes Yes.
In the fourth week of fighting, they woke up.
And yet no, they didn’t just try, but they struck. The missiles left the launcher.
And the whole world is posting photos of Donetsk civilians in plastic bags.
But we have not seen pictures of these same heroes in such bags yet.

We haven't seen many pictures. I, here, have not seen a single photo of Peter the Great. Peter the Great - fake? Somewhere lost all the pictures of Vladimir Monomakh, killed by associates of Julius Caesar and Queen Tamara.
And, yes, about plastic bags - this is my fantasy. Perhaps they were buried like that, without bags. If there was something to bury.

And yet, no. They just tried. “Inflicted” is when the charge reached the target, and “tried” is when the trigger was pulled, and the bullet, flying out of the barrel, went anywhere except the target.

We actually live in the 21st century. Didn't post - so it didn't happen.

None of your relatives were in the war zone during the Great Patriotic War? Then I'll tell you: during the air raid, residents hid in bomb shelters not only from enemy bombs, but also from fragments of anti-aircraft shells of our air defense. Moreover, the chances of falling under the fragments were almost more than under the bomb. The fragments after the charge is triggered still need to FALL TO THE GROUND. A downed rocket also does not have to fly to the moon. It is understood that a missile hitting the declared target will cause much more damage than "anywhere." What happened.

That's it. The presence or absence of photographs does not mean anything. Here the question is simple: trust in a particular source of information. And with or without pictures - it's the tenth thing.

Yes, they were shooting in general anyhow. So they just achieved the stated goal.

"Pacers" are different! There is "Fedot", which is "not the one"! There is a single-engine "Pacer" ("Orion"), which is already in service and rather it is a "model for photo shoots"! Another "Fedot" is also on the way - the twin-engine "Pacer-RU" ("Sirius") ... it not only has more engines, but also other characteristics are higher! Yes

A transport and launch container with an unnamed guided missile was suspended under the bottom.
Not under the bottom, but on a pylon under the wing (the same wing as the camera).

And the type of missile is probably X-UAV: an aviation ("unmanned") modification of the Kornet ATGM. There are three modifications that differ in the type of warhead:
      1. 9M133M-2 (anti-tank cumulative tandem);
      2. 9M133FM-2 (thermobaric volumetric detonating, TNT equivalent of about 10 kg);
      3. 9M133FM-3 (high-explosive, explosive mass - 7 kg).
Range of tandem and thermobaric missiles - up to 8 km; high-explosive - up to 10 km. (This is data on the export modification, when launched from a ground-based launcher; and from a drone - maybe even further).

One annoying thing. Satellite images are four times more clear than images from Inohodets from 5-7 km in height. It is known that Bayraktar conducts reconnaissance at a distance of 70 km. And the Pacer? What are the data of his ECO, if they are, of course, not classified?
