Ukrainian "detachments 731" - the success of the biological program
Nuland vs.
As the Russian troops move across the territory of Ukraine, the declassification of the activity profile of the mass of biolaboratories scattered throughout the country will be inevitable. In one of previous materials we already wrote about the opening of two new US reference laboratories in Ukraine just in time for the start of the military operation to liberate Donbass. It is not known for certain whether it was an accident or whether Ukrainian bio-objects growing like mushrooms after rain could really become one of the targets of the special operation. But the availability of study protocols has already greatly agitated Ms. Victoria Nuland, who demanded that the nature of the work in the reference laboratories be hidden from Russia. If exclusively peaceful research was carried out within the walls of the laboratories, then what is the US assistant secretary of state so afraid of?
Let's clarify a little the situation with the very fact of the appearance of reference laboratories near the borders of Russia. By the way, the US military leadership has scattered such objects almost all over the world. First of all, it is necessary to understand one truth - the laboratory cultivation of deadly strains near the borders of a sovereign state, by definition, is a reason for very serious claims. Even for preventive measures of a forceful nature. And Russia is not alone in this - the Chinese Foreign Ministry turned to the Americans with a demand to disclose the nature of research in laboratories. You can talk a lot about the humanitarian mission of infectious disease specialists, but the presence of strains of Crimean-Congo fever and anthrax in several laboratories in Ukraine at once cannot be explained by peaceful intentions. At the same time, the logic of the behavior of American curators is quite understandable - to move complex and dangerous work with pathogens as far as possible from home. The United States now has very strict security requirements and serious public scrutiny of the work of Fort Detrick-type offices. Therefore, Ukraine in this stories acts as a country of the third or fourth grade, into which it is not a shame to throw out bio-garbage. Elementary savings on safety could and can at any moment cause a biocatastrophe on a regional scale. It's about the same as if Russia were to deliberately place a floating nuclear thermal power plant in neutral waters off the US East Coast. Only now the level of safety at nuclear power plants is several times higher than in any biological laboratory in Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan and other countries of the former socialist camp. By the way, in Kazakhstan they have already managed to justify themselves for the American laboratory in Alma-Ata, in which, allegedly, they created the country's first vaccine against the coronavirus QazVac.
But in Ukraine, despite the presence of 30 such offices at once, they could not develop their own protection against COVID-19. By the way, American biologists could not protect against the spread of coronavirus throughout the country - in Ukraine, the incidence has always been relatively high. And it remains so to this day. Eastern Europe is already seeing an increase in the number of people infected with COVID-19, including due to the influx of infected refugees from Ukraine. You can look at the problem of reference laboratories from another angle. There are no such offices in any European country, but in almost every post-Soviet republic several dozens have been built. And the icing on the cake is the total secrecy of everything that happens behind the walls of the objects. As it is now fashionable to say, there is a complete lack of transparency. Not a single Russian specialist was admitted to any reference laboratory.
At the same time, the domestic biotechnological laboratory "Vector" up to a certain point openly cooperated with foreign scientists and received delegations. By the way, the structure of the Novosibirsk State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology "Vector" also has its own five reference centers for monitoring especially dangerous pathogens, but none of them has gone beyond the country. In Ukraine, we recall, there are 30 such laboratories at once! As a result, it is necessary to fix the fact - the very presence of objects containing dangerous pathogens near the borders of Russia is already an extremely alarming event. Even if in the reference centers, employees of the US Department of Defense are engaged exclusively in peaceful research. Which in itself is nonsense.
Job profile
The Russian Ministry of Defense has released some interesting documents that shed light on the nature of the research that has been unfolding in recent years in Ukrainian reference laboratories. There are few materials (apparently, the Americans managed to clean up the most important ones), but even from them it becomes uncomfortable. First of all, from the nomenclature of military biological objects - plague, cholera, anthrax, brucellosis, tularemia, yersiniosis, poliomyelitis and others. Only in Lviv on February 24 at least 322 containers with these microorganisms were destroyed. If this is not a small industrial party, then what is? The documents also include Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, which was cultivated in the Kiev reference laboratory "Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine." By the way, in a sample of those infected with a fever, 8 out of 10 people may die. In Russia, in the southern regions, since the early 2000s, outbreaks of this infection have already been recorded several times.
The most unusual thing is that until the beginning of this century, there was a relative calm all over the world, or, as Vector experts write, the “silence” of the virus. Then, for inexplicable reasons, the pathogen began to manifest itself everywhere. In Europe and the United States, this was traditionally explained by climate warming, they say, the infection has become more free, it has become easier for it to infect and multiply. The version with the anthropogenic genesis of outbreaks looks much more plausible - it was during this period that 200 American reference centers around the world started working at full capacity. The United States is not the only beneficiary of the Crimean-Congo fever trials in Ukraine. In 2018, the Hamburg Institute for Tropical Medicine named after Bernhard Nocht joined the work. The research program included a group of so-called hemorrhagic hantaviruses transmitted to humans from mice and voles. Mortality from infection can reach 50%! The Germans also oversaw work with the pathogens of Dengue, Chikungunya, West Nile and Uzutu.
A special relationship in the Ukrainian reference laboratories has developed with animals. According to documents obtained by the Russian MoD, within the framework of the UP-8 project (the study of hantaviruses and Crimean-Congo fever), Ukrainian biologists supplied at least 140 containers with bat parasites to the German Institute of Animal Health. No, there is no concern for the health of animals, there is an interest in improving the transmission of infection through parasites - fleas and ticks. The Japanese at one time managed to share with the American masters the developments of "detachment 731" in the field of biological warfare. It seems that in Ukraine we are seeing the reincarnation of something similar.
Everyone remembers the story of the transfer of bat coronavirus to humans around the end of 2019, which led to the COVID-19 pandemic. Similar experiments on the verge of a foul, and even on the border with Russia, were conducted by the reference laboratories of Ukraine for several years in a row. And in Georgia, obviously, they are still underway. At the same time, several cases of infection of people with a fever were recorded - in the Kiev Infectious Diseases Hospital there were several infected people who "did not follow the protocol." Where and under what conditions the patients became infected with Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever and hantavirus infection, the doctors did not find out.
It was decided to use the advantageous geographical position of Ukraine to study the ways of bird migration. Naturally, in military medical needs. The project was named UP-4 and was implemented from 2018 to 2020. Birds are much better vectors of infectious diseases than bats - they annually migrate thousands of kilometers deep into Russia from southern Europe through Ukraine. Birds are unlikely to be able to effectively carry diseases that are dangerous to humans, but they are quite capable of infecting several million heads with bird flu or Newcastle disease on farms. According to the documents, it can be seen that the specialists of the reference laboratories purposefully tracked the migration routes of wild ducks from Kherson to the Tyumen and Sverdlovsk regions.
Much more serious consequences can be caused by the mass transfer of blood samples of local residents to foreign countries. At least once, 350 samples were sent to a reference laboratory in Australia and 1000 samples to Germany at the mentioned Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine. Moreover, the explanation of the Americans does not stand up to criticism - allegedly, to determine the titer of antibodies. By 2019, Ukraine already had several dozens of high-class laboratory bases for the most complex analyzes, and a simple concentration of antibodies had to be determined on the other side of the world. A version of the development of a gene-specific weapon of mass destruction, sharpened for the Slavs, was announced. Of course, this is an extremely complicated and dangerous undertaking - the differences in the genotype between a conventional Frenchman (German) and a Russian are extremely small. Even if it is possible to create a chemical / biological agent capable of choosing certain ethnic groups as victims, the magnitude and consequences of errors will be simply catastrophic. But the theoretical probability of creating weapons of mass destruction of this kind has long been not zero.
