Air defense equipment of the Western Military District intercepted the conventional enemy cruise missiles in the Arctic
Air defense systems of the naval forces of the Northern fleet (SF), performing tasks in conjunction with aviation 1st Command of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Western Military District (ZVO), performed rocket firing and interception of conditional enemy cruise missiles in the air.
In order to work out the issues of air cover for a group of troops, industrial and research facilities in the area of the marine test site in the waters of the Barents Sea, rockets of the Redut coastal complex were launched. The first target missile launched in the direction of the ship group was destroyed by the Su-33 deck fighter armament complex, which was on alert in the air.
Subsequently, two more launches of target missiles imitating cruise missiles were carried out. The second missile strike of the enemy was directed at ground targets. The air defense missiles of the 1 command of the air force and air defense of the target missile were promptly detected and destroyed by launches of the C-300 air defense system at the entrance to the far border of the complex's affected area.
Today, units of the ZVO combined arms brigade on the northernmost combined-arms range of Russia, located in the northwestern part of the Kola Peninsula, in close cooperation with the 1 Air Force Command Air Force and Air Defense reflect the landing of a conditional enemy amphibious assault force using all means of the brigade.
During the tactical exercises, they will be fired with all types of weapons and military equipment. The complex target situation created at the test site imitates the battle formations of a conditional enemy landing on the coast using small boats.
Calculations of the barrel and rocket artillery will have to fire at complex, quickly maneuvering targets. Su-24 bomber aircraft will deliver rocket-bombing attacks on the targets of the conditional enemy. All questions worked out during the exercise are defensive in nature and are aimed at solving the tasks of covering the State Border of the Russian Federation.
Simultaneously with the actions of motorized infantry units of the Marine Corps, which carried out many kilometers of sea navigation on large landing ships, I land tactical amphibious assault forces in economically important regions of the Arctic with the task of preventing terrorist acts on Russian industrial and research facilities located at a distance of more than 2 thousand km from a point permanent dislocation.
All the combat training activities of the ZVO troops in the Arctic are held as part of a large-scale exercise, which began on September 21 of this year. The purpose of the exercise is to work out issues of interaction between land, sea and aviation groups in order to ensure the air defense of economic and other important facilities located in the Arctic region. Special attention is paid to practical actions of coastal units in arctic conditions, including with the conduct of amphibious operations, as well as operations to defend and retain strategically important objects and directions.
More than 7, thousands of personnel, more than 20 surface ships and submarines, about 30 aircraft and 150 units of military equipment were involved in the exercise. Exercise episodes are played out in the Barents and Kara Seas, on coastal testing grounds in the Pechenga district of the Murmansk region and on the Sredny and Rybachy peninsulas, as well as in a number of other regions of the Arctic.
The exercise is conducted under the leadership of Colonel-General Arkady Bakhin, commander of the ZVO troops, it is a planned event for the preparation of command and control bodies, troops (forces) of the district and will be completed on 27 September.
The results of the exercise will be taken into account when planning measures for combat training of ZVO troops in the Arctic regions, which will be conducted on an ongoing basis from 2012.
