"Triumphs" will cover the "shell"
The first battery ZRPK "Pantsir-S" will be included in the 606-th air defense regiment in Elektrostal near Moscow, said Deputy Air Defense Commander Lieutenant-General Sergey Razygraev. Several years ago, this regiment was the first to receive the long-range ZRS of the C-400 "Triumph". “Each C-400 system will be covered with three Pantsir missiles,” says the general.
The Kolomna Instrument Engineering Bureau (KBP) began to develop the Pantsir ZRPK at the beginning of the 90-s based on the Tunguska system. The first prototype was built in 1994 year, but then the funding for the program was almost completely suspended.
The program was revived at the beginning of 2000-s, when the United Arab Emirates ordered 50 of such machines for a total amount of 734 million dollars with the option of an option in 28 machines. Thus, the "Shell" became the first Russian system weaponsintended for export. Under the contract, the PCU was supposed to complete the work within two years and transfer the first ZRPK in 2005. But deliveries were postponed, as developers began to work on an improved version of the complex.
The improved system has more firepower and a new radar. The ZRPK received an 12 new 57-6 near-field missile system with a launch range of up to 20 km in combination with two 2-38 two-speed anti-aircraft guns of the 30 caliber mm. Designers have replaced the old radar developed by the Fazatron-NIIR with a new multi-function millimeter-wave radar with a phased antenna array developed by KBP itself, capable of detecting air targets at a distance of 28 km. The installation of the new radar allowed to increase the number of simultaneously followed targets from 2 to 4, the tracking height increased from 10 to 15 km.
The complex also has a UHF station that detects targets at a distance of 36 km. According to new reports, the Pantsir is capable of hitting targets flying at a speed of 1000 m / s (3,5М) at an altitude of 15 km and a distance of 20 km.
The UAE chose a German MAN vehicle with the wheel formula 8х8 as the chassis of the purchased Pantyrei. Another foreign component of the Emirates air defense systems was the thermal imaging system of the French company Sagem. The Russian Air Force will use a KAMAZ-6350 vehicle with the same wheel formula as a chassis.
Currently, the Pantsir-S ZRPK has also been ordered by Syria and Algeria. These countries preferred the Russian KAMAZ chassis. According to reports, Syria became the first country to receive these complexes. Deliveries to the UAE began last year.
KBP expects to supply the Russian armed forces with a larger number of complexes of this type.
