Currently, the Russian industry is developing several promising unmanned aerial vehicles. aviation complexes with heavy reconnaissance and strike aircraft. One of these complexes is known under the code "Inohodets-RU" or "Sirius". Recently, current plans for this project were disclosed, and this information is encouraging.

Promising project

The promising Sirius UAV is being created by the Kronstadt group as part of the development work of Inohodets-RU. For the first time, this project was openly told in 2019, and the following year they showed a model of the device. In the future, it was repeatedly reported on the implementation of certain works. In particular, in August last year, the management of Kronstadt spoke about the completion of the release of working design documentation and the start of pre-production.

Soon, at the Army-2021 forum, the first contract was signed for the supply of serial aircraft as part of five Inohodets-RU complexes. The timing of the transfer of finished products and its cost remained unknown. By that time, the Kronstadt group had begun construction of a new plant in Dubna, where it was planned to launch the production of serial equipment.

On January 27, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited the new plant, which had recently started its work. He was shown different areas of production and products at different stages of production. In addition, reports were made on the work performed and plans for the near future, incl. and about the Sirius / Inohodets-RU project.

The general director of Kronstadt, Sergey Bogatikov, reported that the company is currently assembling flight samples of the new drone. The first flight of an experienced "Sirius" is scheduled for May this year. Flight tests are expected to be completed by the end of the year. At the same time, a production line for the future series is being prepared at the plant in Dubna.

Further plans were revealed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces Sergey Surovikin. He told the Minister of Defense that the first serial Sirius will enter the troops as early as 2023. This will happen in accordance with last year's contract. At the same time, the volume of deliveries for the next year has not yet been specified.

Development option

According to known data, the Sirius drone is being created as an enlarged and deeply modernized version of the older Orion device. By changing the design, increasing the dimensions and weight, an increase in all the main performance characteristics is achieved, as well as new opportunities are provided for solving the assigned tasks.

The Sirius apparatus retains some resemblance to the base Orion, but at the same time has its own recognizable appearance. It is built according to the normal aerodynamic configuration with a thin fuselage of high aspect ratio, straight wing and V-tail. The bulk of airframe parts for UAVs are made of composites.

Unlike the previous UAV, a twin-engine power plant is used - the motors are placed in gondolas on the wing. The type and characteristics of the engines have not yet been reported. There is an assumption about the unification of engines with the existing Pacer. In the same nacelles on the wing are placed the main landing gear; nose pad retracts into the fuselage.

"Pacer-RU" is larger than the base "Pacer". Its length is 9 m, the wingspan is 23 m. The maximum takeoff weight was set at 2,5 tons; of which up to 1 ton is fuel. The mass of the payload in the form of target equipment and / or means of destruction is 450 kg.

The new UAV is equipped with means of autonomous and remote control over a radio channel. It is planned to install a variety of target equipment with a modular approach to the configuration. The drone can carry an optical-electronic unit or radio systems of various types. With their help, he is able to carry out surveillance and reconnaissance, perform terrain mapping, search for targets and issue target designation. Also, with the help of on-board equipment, independent use of weapons is ensured.

The range of compatible weapons has not yet been named. Previously, at exhibitions, along with the layout of Sirius, rockets and bombs of various types, old and new, controlled and free-falling in calibers from 100 to 500 kg, were demonstrated. Which of them can really use the new UAV is unknown.

According to known data, Inohodets-RU is capable of speeds up to 170-180 km/h. The aerodynamic appearance of the device is due to the need to obtain a high duration and range of flight. The latter parameter is reported to reach 3 thousand km.

The new UAV will be controlled from a unified ground command post. It is being developed by Kronstadt jointly with other organizations and is capable of operating with all modern drones.

Desired Results

Already next year, the Russian Aerospace Forces will receive their first unmanned complex "Inohodets-RU", which will probably include several aircraft at once. They will have to supplement the existing equipment that solves reconnaissance and / or strike tasks. In this case, we are talking about the growth of characteristics and, accordingly, obtaining some new opportunities.

Being a further development of Orion / Pacer, the new Sirius / Pacer-RU will also be able to conduct reconnaissance, find and independently attack ground targets. At the same time, an increase in size and take-off weight will increase all the main operational and combat characteristics - due to the possibility of carrying heavier and more efficient equipment or weapons.

In the future, new heavy reconnaissance and strike UAVs are expected to appear, which will surpass the Sirius in their characteristics. They will also go into service with the Aerospace Forces and will complement the existing equipment.

The result of such processes in the middle of the decade or later will be the formation of a fairly large fleet of heavy drones with broad capabilities. The presence of several models of equipment with different characteristics will allow you to get high combat and operational capabilities. In addition, the flexibility of such a fleet will increase, which will make it possible to more effectively solve the planned tasks.

To date, only the Inokhodets multi-purpose complexes have managed to enter the arsenal of the Aerospace Forces. They are the lightest in the future fleet of UAVs from Kronstadt, which so far imposes certain operational restrictions. However, such devices have already been used during a real combat operation and have clearly demonstrated high combat capabilities.

Latest news

Recent ones news from the field of unmanned aerial systems give rise to healthy optimism. Recently, the Kronstadt group completed and launched a new plant, which will build modern UAVs of various types. The assembly of serial Orions is already underway, which will be transferred to the Ministry of Defense in the near future. Now reports on the work and success in the new project "Sirius".

A number of important events are planned for this year, which will determine the real prospects for Sirius. In a few months, it is planned to begin flight tests to determine the real characteristics and capabilities, and at the end of the year the issue of launching the series will be decided. As a result, the plans of the Ministry of Defense will be fulfilled, and the Aerospace Forces will once again increase their unmanned capability.

most of all, it gave me pleasure to read the performance characteristics of a civilian moped radio with which they want to control this mesh for air defense and electronic warfare. 144 kb / s (GPRS speed) and see in one of the videos of federal channels this is a slideshow of frames on the screen of the UAV operator, which actually confirms these performance characteristics

now it’s ridiculous to show this “achievement” when even countries like Thailand are already producing their strike UAVs ...

                1) there are not so many countries who completely produce everything themselves
                2) UAVs for modern air defense are not such a difficult goal, but not all countries have modern air defense, not to mention the fact that one of the options for the development of UAVs is to turn it into a missile transporter, and already the last 100-150 km of missiles are already they themselves will fly .. Well, not to mention that Sky Scout-X is not even Orion, not Bayraktar and not even Outpost ..

PySy about the data transfer speed - there are several options for the operation of the UAV - data recording and data transfer, if you saw a speed of 144 kb / s, then this is the transfer of data on the positioning of the UAV and not taking into account the picture

1st, there are not so many countries that are under sanctions that force them to imitate the creation of UAVs themselves from civilian components. That Amer radio modem for SATCOM is just because of not having the opportunity to buy a normal one, and even more so to produce it.
2nd It depends on which UAV, depending on how it was produced, when creating this pipelac, modern technologies that reduce the EPR were clearly not used, the usual gluing of composites. SkyScout is an example of a 3rd world country that may well produce analogues, given that in addition to this UAV, the Americans will add "useful sanctions"; export prospects for analogues are very sad.

144 kb / s is the speed of the modem for SATCOM, there is no point in making two channels for telemetry.

                    1) if Russia wants to be an independent power, it will have to learn how to make its own technique
                    2) similar crafts end very quickly if someone is dissatisfied - it’s not difficult to assemble a beautiful model from various components, but it’s very difficult when sanctions are followed and it turns out that even such pepelats cannot be assembled if you haven’t launched production at home, so you don’t need to bring for example, a Thai fake performance characteristics that they didn’t even bother to look at

Ivanov Ivan Ivanovich, would you first take an interest in the topic.
All UAVs of this class (both the hyped TB-2 and Jewish drones) are easy targets for modern (and not very modern) air defense systems. They are used where there is already (or still) no air defense, except for MANPADS. And not a single MANPADS can get it.
So it’s either to drive the Papuans, or for the second phase of the war. In the first phase, air defense is now choking on everything.
As for the corner reflectors, they were amused, they are made of fiberglass, it is somehow difficult to make them.
Why do you think all medium-sized UAVs have such defiantly radio-observable forms. Yes, because they are not iron laughing By the way, this is an answer to the comments on the article about the new plant in Dubna (and where are the metalworking machines, where are all these Ginant carousels) - yes, they are not there - all with scissors.

Regarding the speed of the communication channel, but you are not surprised by the speed of link 16, which is used in the raptor and the penguin and which other aircraft will only be equipped with? So the speed is much less...

Very interesting question about the engine

I thought myself. Offhand, I estimated the maximum weight of 2500, fuel 500-1000 kg, the range of 2000 km at a speed of 180 is 11 hours. According to the required thrust-to-weight ratio, two turboshaft VK-650s are superfluous, one for the eyes, and in terms of fuel supply - it’s not enough for 11 hours. We don't seem to hear about our other TVDs.
But the promising RPD-150T piston is almost just right.
2 for 150 horses. 8 kg per horse is a bit much, but for such a "flying" glider it will do. The average specific fuel consumption is 240 g / (hp * h).
Then 150x2x240x11 = 792 kg fit just right.
By the way, the photo shows a full-size layout without engines, do not judge by the photo.

The same factory where the work tables are on wheels, there are no CNC machines, all the employees of the factory are without gloves and absolutely do not know what they are doing at all?

So far, only one thing can be said about these articles: the advertising budget of the Kronstadt company is large!

Actually, the video of the "factory" really made a splash on YouTube. I feel that someone is not sickly so raise the dough at the expense of taxpayers!

I watched this video and I have some questions. Let the commentators correct me. But, the first thing that confused me was the tables on wheels, well, it’s strange to agree. He will crawl here and there. Secondly, work with composite fabric. Bare hands, no gloves, no headgear. In general, the whole workshop gives the impression of props. And the workers, their uniform hangs on them as if they had just been dragged from somewhere from the street and dressed for extras. But I may not be right.

In fact, your eyes do not deceive you, this is a commissioned report about a factory that is nothing more than a huge garage, so you are right.

You haven't seen the plant. On the video is a piece of the assembly shop and an exhibition of finished products. The plant is just on the map.
No one in the assembly shop works with composite fabric, there are ready-made painted parts.
The uniform hangs because it's cold, if you carefully look at their dressing gowns over jackets.
It is clear that the workers have just been hired, the vacancies opened in November.
And you've really never seen tables on wheels? They do not crawl anywhere with their clamps.

April is in the yard, and how much has changed since the publication of the article ...
therefore, there is only one question: how is it (in our UAV) with import substitution?
and the story about layouts, already today - is irrelevant
