In connection with the deterioration of the situation in the Donbass, a proposal was made to provide military-technical assistance to the unrecognized republics. Russia could give them some samples of military products that they can use to strengthen the defense and to protect against the Ukrainian army. A decision on this issue has not yet been made, but an approximate list of desired samples is already known.

Strengthen the defense

The armed forces of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics are armed mainly with captured samples that were previously recaptured from the Ukrainian army. These weapons and equipment are not new, but they cope with urgent tasks and ensure the deterrence of the enemy. However, the situation in the region is deteriorating, which is why the LPR and DPR need to replenish their arsenals and parks.

Kiev is trying to re-equip its army and even shows some success in the form of modern models of various kinds. In addition, in recent weeks, foreign partners have handed over to him several batches of foreign-made weapons. part of it weapons positioned as defensive, but other samples are intended only for offensive operations.

Such rearmament naturally causes concern in the DPR and LPR, and also attracts the attention of Moscow. Moreover, now we are talking about symmetrical measures in the form of real military-technical assistance to the two republics.

On January 26, the leadership of the United Russia party stated that in the current situation, it is necessary to transfer certain types of weapons to the Donbass republics. The party also appealed to the country's leadership with a request for such assistance. The proposed measures are expected to be a response to foreign arms transfers to Ukraine, as well as to protect Russian citizens in the region.

The top leadership of the country received this proposal, but so far has not reacted to it. Whether deliveries of weapons and other products to the Donbass armies will begin is unknown. The nomenclature of such assistance, if approved, also remains in question.

The needs of the republics

The approximate needs and desires of the unrecognized republics are already known. They were published on January 28 by Izvestia. The data was obtained by him from an unnamed source close to the leadership of the LPR and DPR. It is alleged that the republics are showing interest in air defense, rocket artillery and electronic warfare systems.

To strengthen their air defense, they can request upgraded Osa-AKM anti-aircraft missile systems. Artillery units require Grad-M and Tornado-G systems. To influence the communications and control loops of the enemy, the R-330 Zhitel electronic warfare systems are needed.

It is not known whether the wishes of the republics will be limited only to these products. Perhaps in the future, the DPR and LPR will request other products. At the moment, their fleet of equipment and weapons as a whole corresponds to current tasks and does not have radical problems, but any supply of new military products will not be superfluous.

Threats and Responses

It is not difficult to notice the main features of this list and imagine how the republics will be able to use such weapons when active hostilities resume. With such weapons, their armies will be able to improve their defenses and more effectively protect themselves and civilians from all major threats. In addition, the potential for retaliatory strikes will increase.

The desired Osa-AKM air defense systems, like any other means of air defense, have recently been of great importance for the defense of the republics. In recent months, the Ukrainian army has been using imported reconnaissance and strike Drones Bayraktar TB2. When used correctly, these products pose a serious threat to ground troops. Accordingly, to protect against such a threat, the DPR and LPR need new air defense systems.

It should be noted that the Osa-AKM systems alone do not guarantee reliable protection against attack and / or reconnaissance UAVs. For the construction of a full-fledged air defense, corresponding to the existing risks, other products and systems may be needed. Whether they will ask Russia for them - time will tell.

As an addition to anti-aircraft systems, electronic warfare systems of the type named R-330 can be used. Systems of this family, such as "Resident", are able to detect communication channels and suppress them with interference. They can be used to combat enemy UAVs of all classes, as well as to violate the contours of command and control. If deliveries are not limited to the R-330 systems alone, the enemy's position will worsen further.

The armies of the republics have quite numerous and developed rocket artillery, which a few years ago showed its capabilities. In the near future, it can be strengthened by the supply of equipment from Russia. Thanks to this, the capabilities of the LNR and the DNR in retaliatory strikes will increase. Thus, the Tornado-G system is not inferior in range to the old Grad, but has advantages in firing accuracy.

Additional help

If Russia decides to help with military equipment, the republics will be able to receive not only the products named by the Izvestia source. Of no less interest to the armies of Donbass is a whole range of weapons and equipment of other classes. At present, the threat from Ukraine is complex – and the response should be the same.

Air defense, artillery and radio engineering units can be replenished not only with Wasp, Resident or Tornado. They will need complexes of other models with different characteristics and capabilities. This will make it possible to form a layered defense and flexible strike systems that correspond to current threats.

To protect against an offensive and for counterattacks, various armored vehicles, up to the main tanks. A certain amount of armored vehicles is already available in the republics, but it is not distinguished by novelty and high performance. The transfer of modern samples would ensure parity or even superiority over the enemy.

The issue of supply is of great importance. Together with the complexes and samples, shells, missiles, spare parts, etc. must be supplied. The republics have a certain stock of the necessary products, however, for long-term and active combat work, additional supplies of them are needed.

Military-technical assistance should consist not only in the transfer of finished products and ammunition, but also in the training of personnel. Russia will have to organize training for operators and crews so that they can fully use the potential of the received weapons. However, training may take some time, which leads to some risks and requires special attention.

Symmetric measures

The situation in Donbass has deteriorated markedly in recent weeks. Under the pretext of repelling "Russian aggression", the Ukrainian army is moving troops, weapons and equipment to the region. In addition, Kiev has already received several batches of foreign weapons and expects new ones. All these processes pose a direct threat to the two republics and their inhabitants, a significant part of whom are citizens of Russia, and require an appropriate response.

To solve these problems, United Russia proposes to provide the republics with full-fledged military-technical assistance. Such a proposal has already been submitted to the country's leadership and is now under consideration. Apparently, a decision on this issue will be made in the coming days. The situation in the region is deteriorating, and there is less and less time for analysis and assessments.

Wasp, let AKM not an option

"Osa-AKM" - maybe not the option that is needed! But Belarus has its own version of the "Wasp" ... "deep" modernization! This is the Osa-1T air defense system (or T-38 Stiletto) ... Why doesn't the Russian Federation buy this complex from Belarus and then "re-supply" the LDNR? Or, with the help of Belarusian specialists, not to "arrange" the production of such a modification?

Comrade Ryabov writes articles, as before abstracts, on a complex topic, and when there are few sources (in the era before "download from the Internet"). He takes a couple of paragraphs of information, and sticks around this skeleton with general phrases, changing their order, adding new ones, and repeats these paragraphs, highlighting them point by point, like paragraphs. To make it more poignant.

The day before yesterday? Something too harsh ! Well, at least agree to "yesterday" day! But the Belarusian air defense system "Osa-1T" maybe you shouldn't call it "bad"? It has improved electronic (computing) equipment, an optical channel, increased radar detection range ... And if the Osa-1T air defense system includes Russian 382M9 missiles instead of T335? Thus, we get an increase in performance characteristics in slant range - up to 12 km; and in height - up to 8 km!

Against the backdrop of hysteria, the Russian national currency depreciated by 5-7%. The stock market fell, not critically.

And 12 billion dollars fled from the Ukrainian economy - which is a lot for them.
The current "invasion hysteria" has played more against the Ukrainian economy than against the Russian economy.
Foreign and Ukrainian investors are urgently withdrawing funds from the Ukrainian economy, which does not strengthen the current government.

Howls on the topic, "we will not fight for Ukraine, but we will threaten you with a finger from afar" - are simply ridiculous and caused more political damage to the "consolidated position" of the sykuns

Until the bottomless warehouses of trophies, which are enough for 8 years, run out - in the sense, until the Armed Forces of Ukraine go on the attack - there will be no official military assistance. And as we know, there was no unofficial military assistance and there is not.

The most beautiful thing in this story is that before the February talks with the United States, where, as you know, the Republicans from Congress threaten the Russian Federation with all sorts of sanctions, we found our own "cunning bolt" in parliament. And whoever hoped that being a deputy is only "immunity", let them know what it means "do not try to get away from state affairs."

Russia has succeeded in its model of helping Syria, both militarily and in dealing with the effects of attrition. There is no reason to believe that Russia will change this. Thanks to this model, Russia maintains its military potential unchanged and even managed to improve it in recent years, while improving its position on the Caucasian border.

The model for Russian aid to Syria was formed from the veteran material itself, with the addition of some more advanced material in limited quantities plus some Russian military presence to help build the veteran material and improve deterrence.

Not only is Ukraine moving forward, but the defense of the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics is moving forward, following the path of Abkhazia and South Ossetia until it reaches Russian standards, especially in terms of low technological limit. It means:

    1.-) The Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk will not fight with material completely finished in Russia. This means that we will not see how the armed forces of the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics are fighting with: M-10 M-1938, ZIS-3, D-1, M-43, BS-3, D-44, M-30, M -160, (M)T-12, 61-K ZIK-3 M-1939, 52-K KS-12 M-1939, A-19, ML-20, KS-19, D-48, S-60, ZPU-1/2/4, M-46, D-74, D-20, ZU-23(/-2), S-125 SA-3, D-30, S-75 SA-2, S-200 SA-5, BM-13, BTR-40, BTR-152, BMD-20, BM-24, MIG-15, BRDM-1, BM-14, PT-76, BTR-50, Strela-1 SA-9 , BTR-60, BMD-1, SU-122, SU-100, T-34, Be-6/12, T-54/55/62, MiG-19, Yak-27, Su-9, Su-11 , MiG-21, Yak-38, ZSU-57-2, 2K1 Mars FROG-2, 2K6 Luna FROG-3/5, Temp-S SS-12/22, Yak-28, Luna-M FROG-7, Su -15, Circle SA-4, 2K4 Owl FROG-1, AT-T, T-64, Project T389, Project 253L, Project 54U, Project 73K, Project 572, Project 255, Project 355, Project 254, Project T368, Project 151, Project 264, Project 265, Project 12821, Project 1252, Project 317, Project 257/699/1253, Project 1328, Project 1332, Project 1256, Project 1338, Project 388, Project 1253( /1), Project 1206T, Project 12255, Project 13000, Project 450, Project 189, Pro Project 306, Project 188, Project 770, Project 771, Project 106, Project 773, Project 1785, Project 1209, Project 904, Project 1206( /1), Project X-Bis, Project IX-Bis, Project 617, Project 613, Project 611, Project 633, Project 658, Project 659, Project 645, Project 627, Project 629, Project 651, Project 625, Project 661, Project 670, Project 705, Project 641, Project 685, Project 183R, Project 1240, Project 1141 , Project 206MR, Project 205, Project ( /0)903( /7), Project 1190, Project 30, Project 68, Project 41, Project 56, Project 58, Project 41, Project 57, Project 1123, Project 1236, Project 1833 , Project 159, Project 1134, Project 61/01090, Project 1159, Project 1252.

If some subdivision of some of these projects remains operational in Russia (outside museums), it will most likely go to Syria in the short term.

And if some unit of some of them remains in the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics, Abkhazia or South Ossetia, then, most likely, in the short term they will follow the same path to Syria. Between all of them, the last one to go to Syria will be the T-64, which can continue in the Donetsk and Luhansk Republics until the middle of the term.

The same can be said about portable combat materials and light support materials. This means that LNG-9 and 2B14 Podnos will be discontinued in the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics between many other projects.

2.-) The Donetsk and Lugansk Republics will not fight with improvised modifications. If anything remains changed, it will most likely revert to some officially approved configuration.

3.-) The Donetsk and Lugansk Republics will use supporting materials in accordance with Russian standards. This will greatly limit the presence of support materials on the front line.

When this is completed, the Donetsk and Luhansk Republics will open a gap compared to the military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which Ukraine will find very difficult to close.

(Automatically translated from English. Below is the original commentary in English)

Russia succeeded with its model of help to Syria, both in military terms, and against attrition effects. There is no reason to think Russia will change it. Thanks to this model, Russia keeps its military capabilities intact, and even managed to improve them in recent years, while improved its position in its Caucasus border.

Not only Ukraine is moving forward, also the defense of the Republics of Donets and Lugansk is moving forward, following the path of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, until to reach the Russian standars, especially by the side of the low technological limit. It means:

    1.-) The Republics of Donets and Lugansk will not fight with material totally finished in Russia. It means that we will not see the armed forces of the Republics of Donetsk and luganksfighting with: M-10 M-1938, ZIS-3, D-1, M-43, BS-3, D-44, M-30 , M-160, (M)T-12, 61-K ZIK-3 M-1939, 52-K KS-12 M-1939, A-19, ML-20, KS-19, D-48, S- 60, ZPU-1/2/4, M-46, D-74, D-20, ZU-23(/-2), S-125 SA-3, D-30, S-75 SA-2, S -200 SA-5, BM-13, BTR-40, BTR-152, BMD-20, BM-24, MiG-15, BRDM-1, BM-14, PT-76, BTR-50, Strela-1 SA -9, BTR-60, BMD-1, SU-122, SU-100, T-34, Be-6/12, T-54/55/62, MiG-19, Yak-27, Su-9, Su -11, MiG-21, Yak-38, ZSU-57-2, 2K1 Mars FROG-2, 2K6 Luna FROG-3/5, Temp-S SS-12/22, Yak-28, Luna-M FROG-7 , Su-15, Krug SA-4, 2K4 Filin FROG-1, AT-T, T-64, Project T389, Project 253L, Project 54U, Project 73K, Project 572, Project 255, Project 355, Project 254, Project T368 , Project 151, Project 264, Project 265, Project 12821, Project 1252, Project 317, Project 257/699/1253, Project 1328, Project 1332, Project 1256, Project 1338, Project 388, Project 1253( /1), Project 1206T , Project 12255, Project 13000 450, Project 189, Project 306, Project 188, Project 770, Project 771, Project 106, Project 773, Project 1785, Project 1209, Project 904, Project 1206, Project 1( /617), Project X-Bis, Project IX- Bis, Project 613, Project 611, Project 633, Project 658, Project 659, Project 645, Project 627, Project 629, Project 651, Project 625, Project 661, Project 670, Project 705, Project 641, Project 685, Project 183, Project 1240R, Project 1141, Project 206, Project 205MR, Project 0, Project ( /903)7( /1190), Project 30, Project 68, Project 41, Project 56, Project 58,Project 41, Project 57, Project 1123, Project 1236, Project 1833, Project 159, Project 1134, Project 61, Project 01090/1159, Project 1252, Project XNUMX.

If some unit of some of these projects remains in Russia in working condition (out the museums), is very likely to go to Syria in the short-term.

And if some unit of some of them remains in the Republics of Donetsk, and Lugansk, Abkhazia or South Ossetia, is very likely to follow the same way to Syria also in the short-term. Between all of them, the last to go to Syria would be the T-64, that can continue in the Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk until the mid-term.

The same can be said about man-portable combat material, and light auxiliary material. It means the end of the use in the Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, of the SPG-9 and the 2B14 Podnos, between many other projects.

2.-) The Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk will not fight with homemade modifications. If something remains modified, is likely to return to some officially approved configuration.

3.-) The Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk will use the auxiliary material in agreement with the Russian standards. This will limit strongly the presence of auxiliary material in the frontline.

When this is completed, the Republics of Donets and Lugansk will open a gap versus the military material of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, that will be very difficult for Ukraine to close.

Materials for Russian military assistance to the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics will not be a matter of choice. As with Russian assistance to Syria, the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics will receive a core of material assistance, between the options that are next in line for allied assistance after exhausting the material cited in the previous commentary.

Heavy material of military origin most likely to be next in line for Russian aid to the allies:
        1.-) BMP-1
        2.-) L-39 (auxiliary)
        3.-) Hyacinth-B 152 mm
        4.-) Nona-K 120 mm
        5.-) Strela-10 SA-13
        6.-) Msta-B 152 mm
        7.-) IL-38
        8.-) BRDM-2
        9.-) BTR-70
        10.-) KRAZ-250/260/6437 (auxiliary)
        11.-) GAZ-66 (auxiliary)
        12.-) ЗИЛ- 130/131/133/136/137/138 (вспомогательный)
        13.-) Iveco LMV (auxiliary)
        14.-) Ан-24/26/30/32 (вспомогательный)
        15.-) L-410 (auxiliary)
        16.-) An-2/4/6 (auxiliary)
        17.-) An-72/71/74 (auxiliary)
        18.-) Project 1896 (subsidiary)
        19.-) Project 872 (subsidiary)

Non-military heavy materials most likely to be next in line for Russian aid to allies:
        1.-) Ми-8/9/13/14/17/18/19/24/25/35/171/172/177
        2.-) Project 1415 (subsidiary)
        3.-) Project 745 (auxiliary).

It should be noted that between the heavy supporting materials of the Russian Armed Forces, which would have been part of the surpluses inherited by Russia from the Soviet Union, the projects presented in greater numbers are most likely to be used as aid to the allies. It should also be noted that non-military materials of the security forces can be easily militarized, thanks to the presence also in the Russian Armed Forces.

As with Russian aid to Syria, the foundation presented in these two lists is likely to be supplemented with more modern and powerful heavy materials in limited quantities until a winning combination is reached.

The material for the Russian military assistance to the Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk will not be a matter of choice. Like in the case of the Russian help to Syria, the Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk will receive a basis of material veteran, between the options that are next in line for help to allies at the total exhaustion of the material cited in the previous comment.

Heavy material of military origin that would be very likely next in line for Russian help to allies:
        1.-) BMP-1
