VSSK "Exhaust": Not a single body armor will protect
18
Can a large bore sniper rifle be virtually silent? Why not, if specialists worked on it, who took into account the options for sound absorption when the bullet exits the barrel.
One of the quietest large-caliber sniper rifles is the VSSK "Exhaust", which has been developed over a fairly long period of time - since 2002. The development was, of course, not in order to create it for mass use in the troops. The name speaks for itself: special sniper. It was created for special units, including the FSB special forces. Actually, the FSB special purpose center was the customer of this kind of development.
VSSK "Exhaust" has an impressive weight - about 6,5 kg. Moreover, this is without a sound absorption system when fired (silencer). Developed for a cartridge of 12,7x55 mm caliber (STs-130), which was originally created "with an eye" for low-noise and flameless shooting. The energy of the shortened bullet is enough for a subsonic shot, which, accordingly, also has to do with reducing the noise when firing.
An overview of the Exhaust large-caliber sniper rifle is presented on the Lazarev Tactical YouTube channel. It tells, among other things, about the ability to use a special armor-piercing ammunition when firing from this rifle, which from a distance of 200 m can penetrate 20 mm of steel or armor of the 5th class. Not a single body armor will protect against a VSSK "Exhaust" shot, at least from a distance that is defined as "lethal".
