Biden decided on a dialogue with Putin, as he fears an alliance between Moscow and Beijing against Washington
The Soviet and American leaders of the 60s and 70s did not have to live in the era of VDS (video conferencing). Sharp issues could not be promptly resolved, and therefore the situation passed into such a phase, after which only the Third World War.
It's another matter today. Joe Biden called Vladimir Putin, the assistants turned on the video camera - the leaders of the two countries cordially wave their hands to each other, smile ... smile and wave.
As a result, the tension vanished as if by hand. The 46th President of the United States said that he was able to make Russia "understand what price it will pay if it goes too far on the issue of Ukraine." Jake Sullivan, adviser to the US presidential administration, said that if Russia "starts an invasion, then the United States will do what it did not allow itself to do in 2014." What exactly remains a mystery so far.
Attention was drawn to the fact that the United States refused to impose sanctions against Russia after the talks between the presidents. But they immediately announced the introduction of sanctions against China and the DPRK, naturally "for violation of human rights." This move on the part of the United States, in fact, reveals the political game that Washington has started with respect to Moscow and Beijing. The very call from Biden to Putin suggests that Biden fears a close rapprochement between Russia and China against the United States, while he clearly does not want to push Moscow towards such a rapprochement (alliance) with new sanctions pressure.
