“Embouch” submarine of class “Estyut” is ready for marine testing
The “Embush” class “Estiut” submarine will soon leave the shipyard of the company “BAe Systems” in Barrow-in-Furness and will head for the sea trials to the Clyde naval base in Scotland, the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain informs.
According to the contract, BAE Systems, which is the main contractor of the program, is to build 7 Estel-class submarines for the British Navy.
The head submarine of the series "Estate" was laid down on January 31, 2001 and officially handed over to the British Navy in November 2010. The embush launching ceremony was held in December 2010. As planned, the submarine will be part of the British fleet in 2013. Currently under construction are another 4 submarines of the class "Estate".
The third submarine "Artfall" is in a high state of readiness. All elements of the durable hull of the fourth submarine "Odeyshes" delivered to the company, they are being combined. Purchased materials with a long production time for the sixth submarine. Cutting steel for its construction will begin at the end of 2012.
Estel class submarines are the largest and most powerful multipurpose submarines of the British Navy. They are intended both for operations in the fleet, and in isolation from the main forces, and can be used to perform the tasks of fighting enemy surface ships and submarines and attacking ground targets. In addition, submarines can be used to land troops and gather intelligence information.
Compared with the submarines in service, the estuy class boats have little visibility and improved capabilities for operations in coastal shallow waters. The submarine is equipped with a Rolls-Royce PWR-2 nuclear reactor, which does not need to be refueled for the entire 25-year estimated life cycle, and equipment for producing oxygen from seawater.
