November 30 - Day of Remembrance for All Victims of the Use of Chemical Weapons
Memorial Day for All Victims of Chemical weapons the world community celebrates November 30th. It reminds people of the horrors of chemical warfare and ensures that this type of weapon is never used.
The most massive casualties as a result of the use of chemical weapons were noted at the beginning of the last century, during the First World War. Then about one hundred thousand people died from him. The toxic substances used by the opposing sides not only killed the enemy soldiers, but also caused irreparable damage to health, turned people into cripples.
Later, this type of weapon became so "perfect" that it was capable of making territories uninhabitable for decades. The United States achieved great "successes" in this, using these barbaric methods of waging the war in Vietnam.
Today, chemical weapons are prohibited from being used throughout the world, so that the scale of their use has significantly decreased, although it has not yet been possible to completely eradicate them.
On the other hand, this ban has also become a kind of weapon. For example, Syrian militants stage staging and provocations, accusing government forces of using poisonous substances.
In particular, such a provocation was staged by the Western edition of Bellingcat, which inflated rumors in 2018 about a chemical attack allegedly committed by the Syrian military in Eastern Ghouta. Then there were fierce battles of the SAA with the opposition, and Russian soldiers helped to evacuate the civilian population. So, the residents of this area, as it turned out, not only were not exposed to toxic substances, but also had not heard anything about the chemical attack.
In 2019, radicals from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) decided to organize a provocation more "naturally". The locales of Jisr al-Shugur and Maaret al-Numan in the Idlib province bordering Turkey were chosen as the venue for the "performance". They even brought barrels with toxic substances, from which the people were supposed to be “saved” by the “White Helmets”. But the Syrian military managed to find out about the preparation of the action in advance and to make public information about the provocation.
The "poisonings" of the Skripals and Alexei Navalny are also on a par with the Syrian incidents.
Despite all these incidents, chemical weapons are not a legend; they do exist and pose a real threat. Therefore, there is a Convention on the prohibition of its development, production, storage and distribution, which has been signed by many countries of the world, including the Russian Federation.
