British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth resumes participation in exercises in the Mediterranean after the fall of the F-35B

28

The military exercise, in which the aircraft carrier of the Royal Navy of Great Britain HMS Queen Elizabeth is involved, took place in the Mediterranean Sea, near the island of Sicily. The fighters of the Italian Navy and Air Force also took part in them. Thus, Italy became the second country after the United States to use aircraft from a British aircraft carrier.

The first phase of the exercise consisted of two F-35Bs from the 211st Fighter Squadron of the US Marine Corps landing on Cavour. This was followed by the F-35B of the Italian Navy and the F-35B of the Italian Air Force, which landed on a British aircraft carrier. In the third phase of the exercise, fighters took off from two aircraft carriers and made flights to ensure the integration of joint actions of the naval aviation three states.

As the commander of the aircraft carrier strike group Steve Moorhouse noted, the interaction of American, British and Italian F-35B aircraft provides NATO with tactical maneuverability and a strategic advantage over potential enemy aircraft in the skies over the Mediterranean Sea.

The exercises were watched by high-ranking Italian military officials - the chief of the Italian defense staff, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, the commander-in-chief of the naval forces, Admiral Enrique Credendino, and the commander-in-chief of the Italian air force, General Luca Goretti. Interestingly, earlier in 2021, the Italian aircraft carrier Cavour visited the United States, where specialists from the test group of the F-35 Joint Program Office worked on it. On April 30, 2021, the aircraft carrier returned to Italy.

In addition to the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, a number of British ships are currently in the Mediterranean Sea, which are participating in joint military exercises with Italy. For example, the frigate HMS Richmond arrived in Malta. The frigate of the Netherlands Navy HMNLS Evertsen arrived in the port of Catania, which is also to join the group of ships of the NATO countries. The British destroyer HMS Defender will also take part in the exercises, as well as, probably, the frigate HMS Kent, which previously participated in the operations of the Bahrain naval forces in the Persian Gulf. These are ships from the British Navy AUG.

Based on the results of the exercises, the British, American and Italian military will draw appropriate conclusions. In particular, the requirements for the maintenance of naval aircraft will be determined.

At the same time, the British military department noted that they continue to take measures to prevent third-country military access to the F-35B fighter that fell into the Mediterranean Sea. Recall that earlier in London they announced their readiness to guard the crash site. However, who is "protecting" this place and where exactly it is located has not yet been reported. The Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom said earlier that the plane fell into the sea, probably due to the fault of the technical service, which did not properly prepare the fighter for flight. However, none of the technical service from the aircraft carrier was sent ashore. It turns out that the same people continue to serve the flights from the HMS Queen Elizabeth.

The pilot is alive, but they are stubbornly silent about his testimony and make all sorts of guesses. If the reason is not established, then the operation of this type of aircraft is suspended, pending clarification. In the "Japanese" case and in this case, this was not done. All this is strange, and suggests that they know the reason, but hide it.

Installed. Technician error during pre-flight service. I did not completely disconnect the plug from the engine.
An orange plug was found on the water at the site of the fall.

Sound good. But it's hard to imagine.
It’s not clear - how did he take off with the plug?
How did the pilot not notice the plug?
It's not clear why this technician was not suspended?
It is also not clear why the final conclusions are going to be made after the plane is raised? Did you find the plug?

If they had not established the exact cause of the fall, they would not have continued the exercises as usual.
The technique will be punished, of course.

Rarely are they punished in such cases, only if something is deliberate or egregious, otherwise people will not be honest in the investigation for fear of punishment and this is counterproductive

Do not confuse egregious consequences with egregious violations; minor mistakes can also result in blatant consequences.
Many years ago in Canada, a passenger plane was left in the air without fuel due to the fact that the tanker mixed up kilograms, liters and pounds, the pilots also did not check, and the electronic system responsible for this did not work due to a blown fuse.
And no one was punished, although everyone was wrong. These errors were caused by systemic shortcomings - the planes were new, the first without a flight engineer who had previously done this and plus with the transition to the metric system. in the event of a failure in the automation.
Investigations for this are to find gaps in the system that allowed this to happen and fix them. And not for the fact that someone must be imprisoned, as they like to press here - about the name of each problem. Landing only interferes with solving problems in reality. People should not they are afraid and not hide because of this the details of what and how happened and where they made a mistake

In that case, no. The pilots were able to land the plane on an abandoned runway. Glider Gimli)
But it was a miracle. In fact, this principle works regardless of the consequences. The more people are afraid and hide, the worse the system will work and there will be more victims. As a rule, everything ends with a maximum of dismissals.

Thank you, I read about the "stub". Therefore, I draw such conclusions. There are many plugs on the plane. The largest and most "responsible" - is placed on the VNA engine. But the engine won't even start with it. The rest of the plugs are small, like on the LDPE. I do not know how many of them are on the F-35. But they can lead to the "fall" of the plane, only with the wrong actions of the pilot. At the conclusion of the investigation of the accident, all the reasons, including the technical side and the human factor, are always signed sequentially and in stages.
What was not said not in the "Japanese" case, as here.
And this is understandable, the media will not give out the real reason. And for the layman and the "stub" is enough. The prestige of the F-35 will not be shaken. hi

The Japanese case is also understandable.
The pilot lost consciousness during a sharp dive when changing altitude.
Before that there was a long horizontal flight
The Japanese did not stop flying in the aftermath of this disaster, and no aircraft fell again.
And they assemble the F-35 at their plant, and buy from the USA too.
The prestige of the F-35 in the world is really high.
          No irony.

The German press, referring to the British, writes that the technicians "simply forgot to remove the red plug from the air intake." After the pilot ejected, the F35 resumed its flight for a short time, rather gently tilted to the surface of the water and, presumably, without falling apart, lies on the bottom.
Therefore, the flights were not suspended.
      Just read the article yesterday.

Fachmann ..... The German press, referring to the British, writes that the technicians "simply forgot to remove the red plug from the air intake."

A plug on the engine air intake (VNA) is installed to prevent foreign objects, sand, meteorological cages, and everything else from entering the VNA. If the plug is not removed, the engine will not start, as there will be no air flow into it. Or, if not a tight plug, it will start to start, but will "pump". Therefore, it is simply not possible to take off with it.
If there was some kind of plug not removed, then obviously not from the VNA engine. All airplane plugs are red, or
        red ribbons on them. hi

continue to take measures to prevent third-country military access to the F-35B fighter jet that fell into the Mediterranean Sea
XNUMX-hour surface and underwater patrols? The strange thing is that there was no statement that the plane must be raised to determine the cause of the crash. But on the other hand, there are abundant statements about the inadmissibility of the possibility of raising (stealing) this plane by the Russians.

the plane fell into the sea, probably due to the fault of the technical service,

"This is not at all true!", - the head of the technical service, the guard, Captain Gavrilov, indignantly reacted, who was giving an interview to a CNN journalist, at the same time sewing the Order of Courage to his tunic.
