On November 6, 1941, on the platform of the Mayakovskaya station, the famous speech of the chairman of the Council of People's Commissars and the head of the USSR State Defense Committee, Joseph Stalin, took place, which was broadcast throughout the country.
Stalin's speech was short-lived, but meaningful. The Soviet leader announced the failure of the fascist blitzkrieg, the reasons for the temporary failures of the Red Army, that victory in the war was inevitable.

In conditions when the Wehrmacht was storming the nearest approaches to Moscow, it was decided to hold the ceremonial meeting of the Moscow City Council of Working People's Deputies, dedicated to the 24th anniversary of the October Revolution, in deep secrecy. This decision was made only on November 3, 1941. This was due to the situation at the front, where there was a fierce battle for Moscow. It was also necessary to make sure that the weather would prevent the Luftwaffe from launching a massive bombing strike on the Soviet capital and spoil the celebration.
For reasons of secrecy and security, they did not hold an important event in the usual place - the Bolshoi Theater. We chose the safest for him from the point of view of a possible attack by the enemy aviation place - the deepest at that time metro station, which served Muscovites as a bomb shelter - "Mayakovskaya".
On November 5, the metro station began to be prepared to receive guests. In the evening, the station was closed for the entry and exit of passengers. Trains passed "Mayakovskaya" without stopping. Late in the evening, representatives of the Headquarters of the Supreme Command and the State Defense Committee arrived at the station with an inspection, Stalin was personally with them.
On November 6, preparations continued: chairs were brought and placed at the station, the floor was covered with carpets and rugs, and posters were hung. A place for the presidium was allocated opposite the escalators, where there was no exit from the station (there was a first-aid post). There they set up a tribune, set up a dais with a table for the members of the presidium, hung a portrait of Stalin on the end wall, and a bust of Lenin was erected in front of him. The tunnel leading from the Gorkovskaya station to the Belorusskaya station was de-energized. Deadly threat to the Soviet state and people
The meeting of the Moscow City Council was prepared in the deepest secrecy, and the participants received passes a few hours before the meeting. Stalin and distinguished guests arrived in official cars to the Belorussky railway station, where they were picked up by a special train. Stalin's speech was relatively short, but informative. He began by saying that instead of the traditional summing up of the year that has passed since the last anniversary of the October Revolution, one has to talk about the difficult results of the first months of the Great War. The Supreme Commander quickly turned to an analysis of the situation in the country and at the fronts. He noted that all the creative work in the country had to be rebuilt in a military manner. The war turned the USSR "into a single and all-embracing rear", which serves the Soviet Armed Forces. A war of liberation began with the German invaders.
The Supreme Commander said that the war created a dangerous threat to the Soviet state, we lost most of Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, the Baltic states, a number of other regions, the enemy broke through into the Donbass, hung over Leningrad and threatened Moscow. Fascists rob our country, destroy everything created by the hard work of our people, kill and rape civilians, do not spare women, children or old people. Soldiers of our army and fleet they fight bravely, showing examples of courage and heroism. But the enemy is throwing more and more forces into battle, does not reckon with any casualties and is trying to seize Leningrad and Moscow before the onset of winter. Both sides suffered heavy losses. However, there is no doubt that Germany's manpower resources are already dwindling, and they are less than that of the USSR, whose reserves are just developing.
Stalin spoke about the reasons for the failure of the blitzkrieg. Fascist strategists were planning a "lightning war", intending to end our country in one and a half to two months and reach the Urals. The facts, however, have shown the frivolity and fallacy of this plan.
First, the Nazis could not involve Britain and the United States in their camp, isolating the USSR from the whole world. For this, Hess was sent to England to persuade the British elite to join the general campaign against the USSR. But the Nazis cruelly miscalculated, the Union was not isolated, but, on the contrary, acquired new allies in the person of Britain, the United States and other countries, including those occupied by the Germans, but continuing to resist. The Berlin game of contradictions and intimidation by the specter of the world revolution has exhausted itself.
Secondly, the enemy's calculations of the fragility of the Soviet system turned out to be groundless. The Germans believed that the Soviet Union would collapse after the first serious blow and the first setbacks of the Red Army. That there will be an internal conflict, a war will begin between town and country, nationalists will rise, the country will fall apart, which will facilitate the offensive of the Wehrmacht. But the Nazis here too miscalculated, the war only strengthened the unity of the country and the people. The whole country came out with a united front against the fascist invaders. The Soviet system has withstood such tests that no one could have withstood.
Third, the Nazis counted on the weakness of the Soviet Armed Forces. They planned to crush and disperse our army and navy with the first powerful blow, but "they miscalculated, overestimating their forces and underestimating our army and our navy." Our troops are still young, have not yet become personnel and are waging a hard fight against the enemy, who has two years of combat experience behind him. But our army is waging a just war, protecting the Motherland from enemy invaders and rapists. The war has already forged new Soviet commanders and soldiers, pilots and tankers, gunners, infantrymen and sailors, who will become a threat to the enemy.
The entire people support the Red Army. And the Germans are waging an unjust war, moving away from their rear, fighting in a hostile environment, the partisans are destroying their rear. The defense of Leningrad and Moscow showed that the failure of the "lightning war" was inevitable.

Stalin named the main reasons for the temporary failures of our army.
First, there is no second front in Europe. The Germans were able to concentrate all their forces against us. It also allowed the Nazis to move the troops of their European allies - Finns, Romanians, Italians and Hungarians - against the USSR. Also, practically the entire industry of Europe works for the military forces of the Third Reich: Czechoslovakia, Belgium, Holland, France, etc.
Secondly, this is the lack of “we tanks and partly aviation. In modern warfare it is very difficult for infantry to fight without tanks and without sufficient air cover. " Therefore, our industry must significantly increase the production of military products.
It is clear that we already know that this is an erroneous position. The point is that the enemy skillfully created a multiple superiority in tanks, aviation, artillery and infantry in the directions of the breakthrough. And the Soviet troops, defending themselves, distributed forces and means relatively evenly along the front. This gave rise to the appearance of the great superiority of the Wehrmacht in tanks and aviation on the main directions.
Then Stalin spoke about what German National Socialism is, that German imperialism has nothing to do with socialism and nationalism. The Nazis enslaved European nations, dream of world domination, they are the sworn enemies of the socialists. In Germany itself, all democratic principles have been destroyed.
Hitler speaks of the need to "drive out and exterminate the Slavic peoples - Russians, Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, Bulgarians, Ukrainians, Belarusians" in order to achieve world domination. According to the Fuhrer, a person can only be controlled by force. Any methods are permissible in handling it. When a politician demands it, one must lie, betray and even kill.

The fascists are waging a war of extermination on our land. Hitler's soldiers were turned into wild beasts, they received the following instructions:

But the past year is not only the year of peaceful construction. At the same time, it is the year of war with the German invaders who treacherously attacked our peace-loving country. Only during the first six months of the past year did we have the opportunity to continue our peaceful construction work. The second half of the year, more than 4 months, passes in an atmosphere of a fierce war with the German imperialists.
The war thus became a turning point in the development of our country over the past year. The war significantly reduced, and in some areas completely stopped our peaceful construction work. She forced us to reorganize all our work in a military fashion. It has turned our country into a single and comprehensive rear, serving the front serving our Red Army, our Navy.
The period of peaceful construction is over. The period of the liberation war with the German invaders began.
It is therefore quite appropriate to raise the question of the results of the war in the second half of the past year, in fact, for more than four months of the second half of the year, and of the tasks that we set ourselves in this war of liberation.
The course of the war in 4 months
I have already said in one of my speeches at the beginning of the war that the war created a dangerous threat to our country, that a serious danger loomed over our country, that we need to understand, realize this danger and reorganize all our work on a war footing. Now, as a result of 4 months of the war, I must emphasize that this danger has not only not diminished, but, on the contrary, has intensified even more. The enemy captured most of Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and a number of other regions, climbed into the Donbass, hung like a black cloud over Leningrad, threatening our glorious capital - Moscow. The German fascist invaders are robbing our country, destroying the cities and villages created by the labor of workers, peasants and intellectuals. The Hitlerite hordes kill and rape the civilians of our country, not sparing women, children, old people. Our brothers in the regions of our country occupied by the Germans are groaning under the yoke of the German oppressors.
The soldiers of our army and navy shed streams of enemy blood, defending the honor and freedom of the Motherland, courageously repulsing the attacks of the brutal enemy, giving examples of courage and heroism. But the enemy does not stop at the victims, he does not value the blood of his soldiers one iota, he throws more and more detachments to the front to replace those who have been out of action and strains all his forces to capture Leningrad and Moscow before the onset of winter, for he knows that winter does not bode well for him.
During 4 months of the war we lost 350 thousand killed and 378 thousand missing, and we have 1 million 20 thousand wounded. During the same period, the enemy lost more than 4 and a half million people in killed, wounded and captured.
There can be no doubt that as a result of 4 months of war, Germany, whose manpower reserves are already running out, turned out to be much weaker than the Soviet Union, whose reserves are only now being fully deployed.
Failure of the "lightning war"
Undertaking an attack on our country, the German fascist invaders believed that they would certainly be able to "finish off" the Soviet Union in one and a half to two months and would be able to reach the Urals in that short time. It must be said that the Germans did not hide this plan for a "lightning-fast" victory. On the contrary, they advertised it in every possible way. The facts, however, showed all the frivolity and groundlessness of the "lightning-fast" plan. Now this extravagant plan must be considered a complete failure.
How can one explain that the "lightning war" that was successful in Western Europe failed and failed in the east?
What were the German fascist strategists counting on when they asserted that they would put an end to the Soviet Union in two months and reach the Urals in this short time?
They hoped, first of all, that they seriously hoped to create a general coalition against the USSR, to involve Great Britain and the United States in this coalition, having previously frightened the ruling circles of these countries with the specter of revolution, and thus completely isolate our country from other powers. The Germans knew that their policy of playing in contradictions between the classes of individual states and between these states and the Soviet country had already yielded results in France, whose rulers, allowing themselves to be intimidated by the specter of revolution, put their homeland at Hitler's feet in fright, abandoning resistance. The German fascist strategists thought that the same would happen with Great Britain and the United States.
The notorious Hess was, in fact, sent to England by the German fascists to convince British politicians to join the general campaign against the USSR. But the Germans were cruelly miscalculated. Great Britain and the USA, despite the efforts of Hess, not only did not join the campaign of the German fascist invaders against the USSR, but, on the contrary, found themselves in the same camp with the USSR against Hitler's Germany.
The USSR not only did not find itself isolated, but, on the contrary, acquired new allies in the person of Great Britain, the United States and other countries occupied by the Germans. It turned out that the German policy of playing with contradictions and intimidation with the specter of revolution had exhausted itself and was no longer suitable for the new situation. And not only is it unsuitable, but is still fraught with great dangers for the German invaders, for in the new conditions of war it leads to directly opposite results.
The Germans counted, secondly, on the fragility of the Soviet system, the fragility of the Soviet rear, believing that after the very first serious blow and the first failures of the Red Army, conflicts between workers and peasants would open up, a fight between the peoples of the USSR would begin, there would be uprisings, and the country would disintegrate into components. parts, which should facilitate the advance of the German invaders all the way to the Urals. But the Germans here too were cruelly miscalculated.
The failures of the Red Army not only did not weaken, but, on the contrary, further strengthened both the alliance of workers and peasants and the friendship of the peoples of the USSR. Moreover, they turned the family of the peoples of the USSR into a single, indestructible camp, selflessly supporting their Red Army, their Red Fleet. Never before has the Soviet rear been so strong as it is now. It is likely that any other state, with such losses of territory as we have now, would not have stood the test and would have fallen into decay. If the Soviet system so easily passed the test and further strengthened its rear, this means that the Soviet system is now the most durable system.
The German invaders, finally, counted on the weakness of the Red Army and the Red Navy, believing that the German army and the German fleet would succeed in overturning and dispersing our army and our fleet from the very first blow, opening the way for unhindered advance into the interior of our country. But the Germans made a cruel mistake here too, overestimating their strength and underestimating our army and our navy.
Of course, our army and our navy are still young, they have been fighting for only 4 months, they have not yet had time to become fully cadre, while they have before them a cadre fleet and a cadre army of the Germans who have been fighting the war for 2 years.
But, firstly, the morale of our army is higher than that of the German one, for it defends its homeland from foreign invaders and believes in the righteousness of its cause, while the German army is waging a war of conquest and plundering a foreign country, unable to believe even for a minute. in the rightness of his vile deed. There can be no doubt that the idea of defending our Fatherland, in the name of which our people are fighting, should and does give rise to heroes in our army, cementing the Red Army, while the idea of seizing and robbing a foreign country, in the name of which, in fact, they are leading war, the Germans, should and does give rise to professional robbers in the German army, deprived of any moral foundations and corrupting the German army.
Secondly, moving into the interior of our country, the German army moves away from its German rear, is forced to operate in a hostile environment, is forced to create a new rear in a foreign country, which is also being destroyed by our partisans, which fundamentally disorganizes the supply of the German army, makes it afraid its rear and kills in it the belief in the strength of its position, while our army operates in its native environment, enjoys the continuous support of its rear, has a secure supply of people, ammunition, food and firmly believes in its rear.
That is why our army was stronger than the Germans had imagined, and the German army weaker than the boastful advertisements of the German invaders would suggest. The defense of Leningrad and Moscow, where our divisions recently destroyed three dozen German cadre divisions, shows that in the fire of the Patriotic War new Soviet fighters and commanders, pilots, artillerymen, mortar men, tankers, infantrymen, sailors who tomorrow will turn into a thunderstorm are forging and have already been forged. for the German army.
There is no doubt that all these circumstances, taken together, predetermined the inevitability of the failure of the "lightning war" in the east.
The reasons for the temporary failures of our army
All this is true, of course. But it is also true that along with these favorable conditions there are also a number of conditions unfavorable for the Red Army, due to which our army suffers temporary failures, is forced to retreat, is forced to surrender a number of regions of our country to the enemy.
What are these unfavorable conditions? Where are the reasons for the military failures of the Red Army?
One of the reasons for the failure of the Red Army is the absence of a second front in Europe against the German fascist troops. The fact is that at present there are no armies of Great Britain or the United States of America on the European continent that would wage a war with the German fascist troops, so the Germans do not have to split their forces and wage a war on two fronts - in the west. and in the east.
Well, this circumstance leads to the fact that the Germans, considering their rear in the west secure, have the opportunity to move all their troops and the troops of their allies in Europe against our country. The situation now is such that our country is waging a war of liberation alone, without anyone's military assistance, against the combined forces of Germans, Finns, Romanians, Italians, Hungarians.
The Germans boast of their temporary successes and praise their army beyond measure, assuring that it can always defeat the Red Army in one-on-one battles. But the assurances of the Germans represent empty boasting, for it is not clear why, in this case, the Germans resorted to the help of the Finns, Romanians, Italians, Hungarians against the Red Army, which is fighting exclusively on its own, without military assistance from outside.
There is no doubt that the absence of a second front in Europe against the Germans greatly facilitates the position of the German army. But there can be no doubt that the appearance of a second front on the continent of Europe - and it certainly should appear in the near future - will significantly ease the position of our army to the detriment of the German one.
Another reason for the temporary setbacks of our army is the lack of tanks and, in part, aviation.
In modern warfare it is very difficult for infantry to fight without tanks and without sufficient air cover from the air. Our aviation surpasses German aviation in quality, and our glorious pilots have covered themselves with the glory of fearless fighters. But we still have fewer planes than the Germans. Our tanks are superior in quality to German tanks, and our glorious tankmen and artillerymen have repeatedly put to flight the vaunted German troops with their numerous tanks. But we still have several times less tanks than the Germans. This is the secret of the temporary successes of the German army.
It cannot be said that our tank industry is performing poorly and is supplying our front with few tanks. No, it works very well and produces quite a few excellent tanks. But the Germans are producing much more tanks, for they now have at their disposal not only their own tank industry, but also the industries of Czechoslovakia, Belgium, Holland and France. Without this circumstance, the Red Army would long ago have defeated the German army, which does not go into battle without tanks and cannot withstand the blow of our units if it does not have superiority in tanks.
There is only one means necessary to nullify the superiority of the Germans in tanks and thereby radically improve the position of our army. It, this means, consists not only in increasing several times the production of tanks in our country, but also in sharply increasing the production of anti-tank aircraft, anti-tank guns and guns, anti-tank grenades and mortars, building more anti-tank ditches and all kinds of other anti-tank obstacles.
This is the task now.
We can accomplish this task, and we must accomplish it at all costs!
Who are the "National Socialists"?
The German invaders, that is, the Nazis, are usually called fascists in our country.
The Nazis, it turns out, think this is wrong and stubbornly continue to call themselves "National Socialists." Consequently, the Germans want to assure us that the party of the Nazis, the party of the German invaders, plundering Europe and organizing a villainous attack on our socialist state, is a socialist party.
Is it possible? What can there be in common between socialism and the brutal Hitlerite invaders who plunder and oppress the peoples of Europe?
Can the Nazis be considered nationalists?

In fact, the Hitlerites are now not nationalists, but imperialists. While the Hitlerites were busy with the gathering of German lands and the reunification of the Rhineland, Austria, etc., they could with a certain reason be considered nationalists. The party of the Hitlerites is the party of the imperialists, moreover the most rapacious and robber imperialists among all the imperialists in the world.
Can the Nazis be considered socialists?
No you can not.
In fact, the Nazis are the sworn enemies of socialism, the most vicious reactionaries and Black Hundreds who have deprived the working class and peoples of Europe of elementary democratic freedoms. To cover up their reactionary Black Hundred essence, the Hitlerites criticize the Anglo-American internal regime as a plutocratic regime. But in England and the USA there are elementary democratic freedoms, there are trade unions of workers and employees, there are workers' parties, there is a parliament, and in Germany under the Hitler regime all these institutions were destroyed.
One has only to compare these two series of facts in order to understand the reactionary nature of the Hitler regime and all the falsity of the chatter of the German fascists about the Anglo-American plutocratic regime. In fact, the Hitler regime is a copy of the reactionary regime that existed in Russia under tsarism.
It is known that the Nazis just as willingly trample the rights of workers, the rights of the intelligentsia and the rights of peoples, as the tsarist regime trampled on them, that they just as willingly organize medieval Jewish pogroms as the tsarist regime arranged for them.
The Hitlerite Party is the party of the enemies of democratic freedoms, the party of medieval reaction and the Black Hundred pogroms.
And if these rabid imperialists and evil reactionaries still continue to disguise themselves as “nationalists” and “socialists”, then they are doing this in order to deceive the people, fool simpletons and cover up their predatory imperialist essence with the flag of “nationalism” and “socialism”.

The defeat of the German imperialists and their armies is inevitable
The mere fact that in their moral degradation the German invaders, having lost their human appearance, have long since fallen to the level of wild beasts, this fact alone speaks for the fact that they doomed themselves to inevitable death.
But the inevitable death of the Nazi invaders and their armies is determined not only by moral factors.
There are three more main factors, the strength of which is growing day by day, and which should lead in the near future to the inevitable defeat of Hitler's bandit imperialism.
This is, firstly, the fragility of the European rear of imperialist Germany, the fragility of the "new order" in Europe. The German invaders enslaved the peoples of the European continent from France to the Soviet Baltic, from Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Holland and Soviet Belarus to the Balkans and Soviet Ukraine, deprived them of elementary democratic freedoms, deprived them of the right to control their own destiny, robbed them of bread, meat, raw materials , turned them into their slaves, crucified Poles, Czechs, Serbs on the cross and decided that, having achieved domination in Europe, they could now build on this basis world domination in Germany.
This is what they call "the new order in Europe."
But what is this "foundation", what is this "new order"?
Only Hitler's narcissistic fools fail to see that the "new order" in Europe and the notorious "basis" of this order is a volcano ready to explode at any moment and bury the German imperialist house of cards. They refer to Napoleon, assuring that Hitler acts like Napoleon, and that he is like Napoleon in everything.

As long as the Hitlerites were busy reassembling Germany, which had been shattered by the Treaty of Versailles, they could have the support of the German people, inspired by the ideal of rebuilding Germany. But after this task was solved, and the Nazis took the path of imperialism, the path of seizing foreign lands and conquering foreign peoples, turning the peoples of Europe and the peoples of the USSR into the sworn enemies of today's Germany, a deep turning point took place in the German people against the continuation of the war, for the elimination of the war.
More than two years of a bloody war, the end of which is not yet in sight; millions of human victims; hunger; impoverishment; epidemics; the atmosphere around them was hostile to the Germans; Hitler's stupid policy, which turned the peoples of the USSR into the sworn enemies of today's Germany - all this could not but turn the German people against an unnecessary and ruinous war. Only Hitler's fools cannot understand that not only the European rear, but also the German rear of the German troops is a volcano ready to explode and bury the Hitlerite adventurers.
Finally, it is the coalition of the USSR, Great Britain and the United States of America against the German fascist imperialists. It is a fact that Great Britain, the United States of America and the Soviet Union have united into a single camp, which has set itself the goal of routing the Hitlerite imperialists and their invading armies. Modern war is a war of motors. The war will be won by the one who will have an overwhelming predominance in the production of motors. If we combine the motor production of the USA, Great Britain and the USSR, then we get a predominance in motors in comparison with Germany, at least three times. This is one of the foundations of the inevitable death of Hitler's robber imperialism.
The recent conference of the three powers in Moscow with the participation of the representative of Great Britain, Mr. Beaverbrook and the representative of the United States, Mr. Harriman, decided to systematically help our country with tanks and aircraft. As you know, we have already begun to receive tanks and aircraft on the basis of this decree. Even earlier, Great Britain provided our country with such scarce materials as aluminum, lead, tin, nickel, and rubber. These are the factors determining the inevitable death of German fascist imperialism.
Our goals
Lenin distinguished between two kinds of wars: wars of conquest, and hence unjust, and wars of liberation, just.
The Germans are now waging a war of conquest, an unjust one, calculated to seize foreign territory and conquer foreign peoples. Therefore, all honest people must rise up against the German invaders as against enemies.
Unlike Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union and its allies are waging a war of liberation, just, calculated to free the enslaved peoples of Europe and the USSR from Nazi tyranny. Therefore, all honest people should support the armies of the USSR, Great Britain and other allies as liberation armies.
We do not and cannot have such goals of war as the seizure of foreign territories, the conquest of foreign peoples - it does not matter whether we are talking about the peoples and territories of Europe or about the peoples and territories of Asia, including Iran.
Our first goal is to free our territories and our peoples from the German fascist yoke.
We do not have and cannot have such goals of war as imposing our will and our regime on the Slavic and other enslaved peoples of Europe, who are waiting for our help. Our goal is to help these peoples in their liberation struggle against Hitler's tyranny and then allow them to completely freely settle on their land as they want.
No interference in the internal affairs of other peoples!
But in order to achieve these goals, it is necessary to crush the military might of the German invaders, it is necessary to exterminate every single German occupier who made their way to our homeland to enslave it.
But for this it is necessary that our army and our navy have active and active support from our entire country, so that our workers and employees, men and women, work tirelessly at enterprises, and give the front more and more tanks, anti-tank guns and guns, aircraft, cannons, mortars, machine guns, rifles, ammunition, so that our collective farmers, men and women, work in their fields tirelessly, and give the front and the country more and more bread, meat, raw materials for industry, so that our whole country and all the peoples of the USSR are organized into a single military camp, waging, together with our army and navy, the great liberation war for the honor and freedom of our Motherland, for the defeat of the German armies.
This is the task now.
We can and we must accomplish this task.
Only by completing this task and defeating the German invaders can we achieve a lasting and just peace.
