Pirates fled from a hijacked container ship off the coast of Africa after a helicopter with Russian marines appeared

130

It became known about a successful operation carried out by Russian sailors off the Atlantic coast of Africa.
Reports indicate that the crew of the VPK "Vice-Admiral Kulakov" suppressed pirate activity in the Gulf of Guinea. A pirate group off the western coast of Africa attempted to hijack a ship sailing in that area under the Panama flag. At some point, the attempt was crowned with success.

The pirates overtook the ship in a fast boat and tried to take the crew hostage and drive the ship to the nearest port for unloading in their own interests. According to the latest data, we are talking about a container ship.

The ship's crew gave a distress signal and took refuge in the engine room. The seamen of the Russian warship responded to the signal. A Ka-27PS helicopter with marines was immediately lifted from its side. As soon as the helicopter appeared over the container ship hijacked by the pirates, the criminals immediately began to flee from the ship to their boat. Then they headed towards the shore at high speed.

According to the latest information, the Russian marines did not open fire to kill. A special group was landed on the container ship, which informed the crew of the cargo ship that it was out of danger. The container ship was able to continue sailing.

It should be noted that ships of companies from various countries sail under the Panama flag today. The reason is the special privileges for the registration and operation of ships in Panama. It is not reported about the citizens of which specific countries are on board the container ship freed from pirates.

The Gulf of Guinea, as well as the coastal waters of the so-called Horn of Africa, are among the most dangerous from the point of view of a potential pirate attack on the waters of the World Ocean. The Strait of Malacca is just as dangerous.

But their seaworthiness is so disgusting ... and on a wave (and there is always a wave in the sea), he will not be able to lift a helicopter. It turned out as in that saying - not a candle for God, not a damn poker.

In Soviet times, they worked off the coast of Western Sahara, zones with a gulkin's nose, about a hundred miles, and guarded by our two minesweepers or one BOD, and even a Spaniard. When the BOD, everyone scattered around their holes. And you can't block the West Coast of Africa. Yes, no one has any desire.

Existing international laws do not allow for the fight against piracy. Destroying pirates will be more expensive. In areas from the Gulf of Guinea to Equatorial Guinea, Nigerian pirates have been rampaging for more than 10 years. All international organizations are talking about this, but no measures are being taken. Nigerian pirates are much more brutal than Somali pirates, they do not hesitate to kill crews, unlike Somalis. This is the scourge of world shipping.

They must first be grabbed with arms, and at the time of the seizure of the ship. But God forbid if the ship entered the threshing ships of a foreign state, then the shit will not be selected. Maybe you know the case of PMCs seized in the port of India, and who served 5 years in zindan.

                    really interesting.
As for me, PMCs should be present on bait container ships so that later not just shoot all the pirates, but execute them with extreme cruelty (for example, feed them still alive sharks and not all at once, but in turn, so that the rest while still alive would understand what awaits them and shoot them on camera too), and shoot them on camera, and then transfer the recording with the only living one who would be released alive.
and after a few executions, the number of people willing to perform will decrease very sharply

We entered the Indian port, there were employees of an Italian PMC on board, the guys were all from the former Soviet Union, the weapons were properly sealed, but the authorities made demands to detain the ship, crew and PMC employees. After legal proceedings, the ship was returned. At first, the guys were under arrest but lived on the shore. So two years passed, then they spent two years in prison, the last year while they were suing, they also lived on the shore. The attitude of the local population towards them was good, and this also affected their stay in prison. This is how 5 years of life passed.

The humanity of international laws in relation to sea pirates is compensated by the unpredictability of the fate of "gentlemen of fortune" on a fragile inflatable boat in dangerous international waters where there are few witnesses.

It is not known how in this particular case, but if the pirates sailed somewhere in the direction of the berg, this does not mean that they reached there. Rubber boat, the world's oceans, force majeure could easily have happened. They probably had an RPG with them, the boat was thrown on the wave, the charge for the RPG hit right with the detonator and detonated, for example.
If all possible options are considered, then the pirates have almost no chance of getting safely to the coast.

What was the significance of the White Sea-Baltic Canal? Before the war, cargo transportation on the BBK did not exhaust its capacity. In 1940, the total traffic volume was 1 million tons, which was 44% of the design capacity. And after the Great Patriotic War, this figure even decreased. But the value justified the calculations about the enormous military-strategic importance of the BBK. If before the opening of the canal the vessels spent 17 days on the passage from Leningrad to Arkhangelsk, then from the beginning of navigation such a route began to take no more than 4 days [133]. The ship route ran through Soviet territory, which created conditions for strengthening the Soviet naval power in the North by means of the inter-theater maneuver of the Baltic Fleet ships. In the absence of a channel, the creation of any significant naval forces was impossible. The seventeen-day passage around Scandinavia, with the complete absence of intermediate bases and the impossibility of replenishing supplies, was beyond the power of warships of medium and small displacement. The cruising range of Soviet destroyers of that time was 1700 miles, and between Kronstadt and Polyarny lay 2300 miles of stormy sea [134].

The opening of the BBK navigation provided a strategic benefit almost immediately. Throughout the 20s, the "seal war" continued in the White Sea: the conflict between the USSR and Norway over biological resources. Every spring hundreds of Norwegian and English trawlers entered the throat of the White Sea and methodically knocked out the White Sea seal. Attempts by the weak ships of the Maritime Border Guard to intervene in the situation were immediately stopped by Norwegian and British warships. How widespread the "force support" was is seen from the fact that on the border of the territorial waters of the USSR, a squadron of the British fleet was constantly on the route, with a cruiser as the flagship [135]. The case twice, in 1929 and 1930, came to the shelling of Soviet territory by Norwegian ships [136].

It was impossible to resolve the conflict politically: the Kingdom of Norway did not recognize the USSR. But in the summer of 1933, with the transfer of submarines along the channel, the Norwegian side changed its position so much that it became possible to restore diplomatic relations between the countries. Before the start of the Great Patriotic War, 6 operations were carried out to transfer destroyers by the channel, 2 operations to transfer patrol ships and 9 (!) Transfer of submarines. Three ships, the destroyers "Stalin" and "Voikov" and the submarine Shch-404, crossed the Northern Sea Route to the Far East and became part of the Pacific Fleet (the transfer of ships of this class in another way for the USSR in the 30s was impossible).

This is because civilian ships are prohibited from arming. But it would be enough to have one gunner with an anti-material rifle on board to solve the main part of the attacks. One or two shots at the engine of the attacking boat ...

Any tanker with a capacity of 300 thousand tons or a container ship on a calm wave goes smoothly. The shooting distance does not have to be chosen at 2-3 km. Fortunately, on a large ship there is where to stock up and at a height, with a good view. So that they don't immediately notice where the fire is coming from. And having come under fire with a large caliber, the pirates will least of all think about the assault on the tall sides.
And in a storm, pirates themselves do not really climb into the ocean on boats.

It's hard to argue. After all, the situation is hypothetical. But at a distance of 100-200 meters, you have to be very crooked-oblique in order to miss a lot. The pirate boat will not throw too much. Because they themselves will not climb into a strong wave. Rather, they won't even go to sea. And it's easier to aim at a weak one.

AKM is good in manpower. And this is not welcome. But in terms of the engine and the design of the attacking boat, something more powerful is needed so that it does not become a heavy weapon, which is not allowed for civilians.
The distance was indicated, taking into account the fact that the attackers must clearly demonstrate hostile intentions. I do not think that pirates begin to "give unambiguous signals" at a greater distance. And this distance does not require special shooting skills.

And for some reason no one was interested in why this expensive BOD wastes resources on pirates, if a whole series of Project 22160 ships were apparently built specifically for this?

I was walking by about my business, I heard a shout, I decided to look, looked, figured it out, dispersed the punks, went on about my business.

And if without any fantasies and inventions?
          Murmansk, October 12 - Aif-Murmansk.
A detachment of the Northern Fleet has begun to ensure the safety of navigation in the Gulf of Guinea of the Atlantic Ocean near the African coast. It includes the large anti-submarine ship "Vice-Admiral Kulakov", the medium sea tanker "Akadimik Pashin" and the rescue tugboat "Altai". Captain of the first rank Stanislav Varik is in command of the anti-submarine ships formation.
"Monitoring of the situation in the Gulf of Guinea is carried out with the help of the Ka-27 search and rescue helicopter, which, in addition to the crew, accommodates a group of marines armed with machine guns and assault rifles to fight pirates and prevent the seizure of ships," the press service of the Northern Fleet said.

So I ask, why not project 22160? After all, they were built with pathos for this very purpose.

for the media, you can say so, no one will be interested that the ships were sent on a regular campaign (well, you can drive pirates on a campaign)
and in the northern fleet there is no pr 22160

they need to be driven only by ships of the Northern Fleet, the Black Sea is not, does not it fit? maybe then it is worth including a pair of 22160 in the Northern, let them freeze? They were built against pirates, however.
What fiction am I still going to read today, why, in the presence of 22160, which were built specifically for this, the pirates were sent to drive an expensive BOD?

In seconds, you will not have time to open your mouth, and the "Bruno's spiral" stretched along the sides does not help.

But the security hired to pass dangerous areas helps, but here they seem to have saved

It is somehow strange that they took it and ran away like that. They say the Nigerians are frostbitten in comparison with the Somali.

We were unable to take the crew hostage. And without this they are vulnerable, the military will roll them out very quickly. And they don't need to be shot at sea - they just need to be handed over to the Nigerian authorities. From such a prospect, they themselves would probably demand that they be shot at sea.

The pirates did not tempt fate and check who was flying there in a helicopter. Such people would hardly stop going out on their own. There were only five of them with a bunch of empty canisters.

People have nothing to do with it. They are forced to pay tribute to the sharks that dive along their shores. They have run out of virgins, so they pay off with gold.

        Not sharks, some gourmets.
That and look, they will demand gold of a certain standard :)

With your words about sharks and virgins, I think, well, what does the container ship have to do with it?
        They thought there were virgins?

Well, it depends on the attitude - after reading the article and the title, I did not go into the critical thoughts that local commentators naturally have. I decided to leave everything as it is - the first impression.

      Once at a "high" speed
sailed away, then the operation was not successful.
Should have been forced to surrender, or to sail to the shore for the distillation ...

What kind of unnecessary, slobbering liberalism? Previously, pirates were yanked onto the yard.
