The US Air Force has once again tested the operation of the Russian air defense system by sending a B-1B Lancer strategic bomber towards the Russian border. The plane heading towards Russia was "intercepted" by a Russian MiG-31.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, on October 17, 2021, the air defense systems of the Eastern Military District detected a target moving towards the Russian border over the Sea of Japan. For identification, an interceptor of the air defense forces on duty of the MiG-31 district was raised in the air.
The Russian fighter "intercepted" an American strategic bomber over the neutral waters of the Sea of Japan, identified it, after which the American's crew made a decision to turn. The Russian MiG-31 escorted the US Air Force bomber and, after making sure that the plane was on the opposite course, returned to the home airfield.
It is emphasized that there was no violation of the Russian border. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense notes that the number of flights of the American military and reconnaissance aviationas well as NATO aircraft near the Russian borders increased.
Earlier, the US Air Force deployed four B-1B Lancer strategic bombers to Europe, a couple of which, having taken off from the Fairford airbase in the UK, worked out strikes in the Kaliningrad region.
