Lithuania will fence itself off from Belarus with barbed wire

64

Lithuania will fence itself off from Belarus with kilometers of barbed wire. Vilnius confirmed the decision to build a fence along the entire length of the border that can stop the entry of illegal migrants.

As stated in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, to date, only 46 km of barriers have been installed, while about 680 need to be blocked. Lithuanian border guards plan to purchase 300 km of barbed wire in order to close the most problematic sections of the border in the near future.

The ministry noted that Ukraine, Estonia and Slovenia rendered great assistance to Lithuania in the fight against illegal migrants, donating 250 km of barbed wire to Lithuanian border guards, more than 300 km were purchased, but this is not enough for the construction of a double barrier on the border with Belarus. According to the plans of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, at the border there should be a 4-meter fence made of a metal rod mesh with barbed wire stretched over it, and behind it - an additional barbed wire fence with a height of three meters.

To cover the most problematic sections of the border, 300 kilometers of barbed wire will have to be purchased. We currently have 556 kilometers of concertina, of which 306 kilometers were purchased, 250 kilometers were donated (...)

- stated in the message of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania

The cost of this project is 152 million euros. At the same time, it is emphasized that all funds will be taken from the country's budget, since the European Union refused to pay for this work.

Let's remind that Lithuania accuses Belarus of opening its border for illegal migrants seeking to the European Union. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic, their number, compared to 2020, has increased 10 times.

In winter, yes ... trouble Yes I remember a crocodile escaped in Mariupol. While it was warm, I scared the vacationers on the beach, but when it got colder I moved to a relatively warm place ...

In general, Gena died, did not take root in the local climate ...

In Mariupol, they caught a crocodile who escaped from a traveling circus six months ago. A crocodile named Godzilla was caught on the territory of Azovstal by Vasily Akimov, a worker of the contractor organization Mariupolmontazh.
Akimov discovered a crocodile at the 7th well of the sump of the thermal power station of the Azovstal steel plant.

According to Akimov, Godzilla offered no resistance while hibernating. Workers carried the crocodile to the back room and called in rescuers.

Currently, the Emergencies Ministry units have left for the animal, which they have been trying in vain to catch since the summer of 2007.

Recall that at the end of May, a Nile crocodile named Godzilla escaped from the Mariupol mobile zoo and swam to the Sea of Azov. Since then, rescuers have searched unsuccessfully for him.

All this time, Godzilla spent in warm waters in the area of the Azovstal CHP, teeming with fish.

Emergency Situations Minister Nestor Shufrich was interested in this issue and concluded that the prospects for this, according to the minister, "little Godzilla" are "unhappy."

In fact, many soldiers from Latvians, Lithuanians and Estonians proved themselves worthy during the First World War, later in the Great Patriotic War (in the Red Army), and then in local wars and military operations of the XX-XXI centuries.

The Russian army was multinational at all times. All the peoples of Russia valiantly fought under its banners. The First World War was no exception, which absorbed into the Russian army, in the words of V. I. Lenin, “the entire color of the people's forces,” and we can add - all the peoples of Russia. In its ranks, soldiers of dozens of nationalities bravely fought alongside the Russians.

Already during the war, volunteer national units were included in the active army. Their heroic path can be traced most clearly in the example of volunteer Latvian rifle brigades and Armenian volunteer squads. It should be emphasized that it was these peoples who were subjected to the most merciless aggression from the enemy during the First World War.

The prehistory of the creation of the Latvian rifle brigades should be considered April 1915 - the time of the Austro-German offensive on the Russian front. Then a serious threat of occupation hung over Latvia. In those days, a group of students from the Riga Polytechnic Institute proposed to create intelligence and communications teams from Latvian students. Soon, however, the Austro-German offensive was stopped, but the idea of creating separate Latvian military units was picked up by the Latvian intelligentsia. However, a legal obstacle stood in the way of its implementation: in Russia, the national territorial principle of army formation was not allowed. The patriotic impulse of the Latvian intelligentsia nevertheless found support from the leadership of the General Staff, the War Ministry and the headquarters of the North-Western Front, whose line passed through the territory of Latvia. The direct initiative was taken by the deputy of the IV State Duma J. Goldmanis, on whose proposal a meeting of prominent Latvian public figures was held on May 19, 1915 in Riga. On it, it was decided to create an organizing committee, which was supposed to petition the highest military authorities for permission to form Latvian detachments and recruit volunteers for these units.

Already on May 28, J. Goldmanis submitted a petition to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich (junior), in which, referring to the resilience of the Latvian militias shown in recent battles, he asked permission to form Latvian volunteer squads.

At the same time, he submitted the same petition to the headquarters of the North-Western Front. On July 15, Colonel of the General Staff assigned to the headquarters, Kosyakov, also drew up a detailed memo addressed to the commander-in-chief of the front armies, General of Infantry MV Alekseev, in defense of the idea of forming Latvian units.

While the question of creating Latvian military formations was being decided in the headquarters and government circles, a new German offensive began. The front line was rapidly approaching Riga. This circumstance prompted the command of the Northwestern Front to use all possible reserves to stop the enemy's advance: on July 19, 1915, the commander-in-chief of the armies of the Northwestern Front M.V. Alekseev, in accordance with the instructions of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich, signed an order on the formation of two Latvian volunteer squads, which received the names
1st Ust-Dvinsky and 2nd Riga Latvian rifle battalions. At the same time, the Organizing Committee of the Latvian Rifle Battalions headed by J. Goldmanis was approved.

M.V. Alekseev also approved the "Temporary regulations on the Latvian rifle battalions." It established that they are formed from Latvian volunteers and are intended for joint operations with units of the active army in the Baltic States. It was allowed to transfer Latvian soldiers from other military units to their ranks.

When recruiting volunteers, the Organizing Committee published an appeal "Get together under the Latvian banners!"

The patriotic upsurge among the Latvian population, especially the youth, was so great that their command could not accept everyone in the two newly formed national battalions. In this regard, the Organizing Committee in August submitted a request to the front command and received permission to form the 3rd Kurzeme Latvian Rifle Battalion. In early September, it was also allowed to form the 4th Vidzeme Latvian Rifle Battalion. However, even the new battalions could not accept everyone. Therefore, in November, the front command decided to form four more Latvian rifle battalions and one spare. Later, at the end of 1916, they were deployed in eight rifle regiments numbering 38 thousand soldiers and 1 officers, and one reserve rifle regiment consisted of 10-15 thousand soldiers. First, they were consolidated into two rifle brigades, and then, in December 1916, into the Latvian rifle division as part of the 12th Army of the Northern Front (in August 1915, the North-Western Front was divided into Northern and Western).

Since the fall of 1915, the Latvian rifle battalions took part in fierce battles at the Riga bridgehead as part of the 12th Army of the Northern Front, where they showed exceptional perseverance and heroism, having lost almost half of their personnel by the summer of 1917.

The mass heroism shown by the Latvian riflemen during the First World War was especially vividly manifested in the Riga defensive operation on August 19-24, 1917. On August 19, German troops crossed the Western Dvina (Daugava) and launched an offensive. Stubborn defensive battles lasted for two days. Many parts of the 12th Army fought heroically, especially the Latvian riflemen. So, in the area defended by the 5th Zemgale Latvian Rifle Regiment (commander Colonel Joachim Ioakimovich Vatsetis), the soldiers had to withstand the onslaught of an entire German division. At the same time, the position of the Latvian riflemen consisted of trenches, the equipment of which was not completed.

One of the participants in this battle later recalled: “The reserves of the brigade were exhausted, we had to rely only on our own forces. Enemy chains, one after another, came at us. The worst episode of the battle began for us. Machine guns, hand grenades, stocks, kettles, stones and fists were used. It was here that the Latvian riflemen proved their courage and resilience. In some places, the arrows, under the leadership of their officers, rushed at the Germans and, with the help of bayonets, threw them away from our trenches. " Only after receiving instructions from the higher command, the regiment commander I. I. Vatsetis gave the order to withdraw. But before the retreat, he gathered the last reserves of the regiment: the company guarding the headquarters of the regiment, signalmen and other riflemen who found themselves at the headquarters under the direct leadership of the regiment commander went into a counterattack for the last time and threw back the enemy. After that, the remnants of the regiment managed to retreat without being pursued by the Germans.

The courage of the riflemen of this regiment made it possible to withdraw the 2nd and 6th Siberian Army Corps from the threat of encirclement and avoid the encirclement of the entire 12th Army. 642 riflemen of the 5th Zemgale regiment, i.e. more than a third of its combat strength.

It should be noted that in the Riga defensive operation, other Latvian formations also showed themselves heroically. The soldiers of the Russian regiments, especially the Siberian ones, also fought steadfastly. The displayed heroism of many parts of the 12th Army deprived the German troops of the opportunity to advance further. The road to Petrograd was closed.

The greatest losses in the Riga defensive operation were suffered by the Latvian rifle regiments - 5,5 thousand people. These units accounted for more than 20% of all losses of the 12th Army, moreover, of the total number of losses in both Latvian rifle brigades, there were about 3,5 thousand killed and missing (more than 40% of the total number of killed and missing in the 12th Army). The 5th Zemgale Latvian Rifle Regiment suffered the most in these battles, having lost 80% of its officers and 67% of its riflemen, and the 1st and 5th companies of this regiment were almost completely destroyed.

In the future, the fate of the soldiers and officers of the Latvian formations was different. Part of them (about 18 thousand) after the liquidation of the Russian army in 1918 remained in Soviet Russia and joined the Latvian Soviet Infantry Division in April 1918 (commander I.I. Vatsetis), some returned to their homeland. By the fall of 1918, the division numbered about 24 thousand people and was the largest national formation in the Armed Forces of the RSFSR. Latvian riflemen were used as an exclusively combat-ready force on the side of the Bolsheviks: their regiments were widely used along the entire front of the Civil War.

Parts of the Latvian riflemen were distinguished by iron discipline, were used to suppress anti-Bolshevik uprisings in a number of cities (Yaroslavl, Murom, Rybinsk, Kaluga, Medyn, Saratov, Novgorod, etc.). The shooters also took part in the civil war in Finland. Many commanders of the Latvian riflemen were able to achieve large leadership positions in the Red Army and Soviet authorities. So, the first Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the RSFSR was II Vatsetis.

Another part of the Latvian riflemen since 1918 was on the side of the White movement (Troitsky battalion, Imantsky regiment).

During the Great Patriotic War, thousands of Baltic residents joined the SS, police, etc. However, not all Lithuanians, Latvians and Estonians served the Germans. Quite a few of them fought on our side. And if the loyalty to the Soviet state of the 22nd Estonian, 24th Latvian and 29th Lithuanian rifle corps, formed on the basis of the national armies of the former Baltic countries, as it turned out in the very first days of the war, turned out to be low (due to mass desertion and the transition to the side of the Germans ), then the new connections created later acted quite well.

The 201st Latvian Rifle Division became the "first swallow", the decision on the formation of which was made by the State Defense Committee on August 3, 1941. On September 12, 1941, the soldiers of the division took the oath. Of the 10 personnel, 348% were Latvians, 51% were Russians, 26% were Jews. Subsequently, the share of Latvians decreased even more - on average, during 17, the division comprised 1943% of Latvians, 38,8% of Russians and 43,7% of Jews. On October 9, 5, for the courage and resilience of the division shown in the battles near Moscow and near Staraya Russa, the division was awarded the rank of guards. From now on it was called the 1942rd Latvian Guards Rifle Division. On June 43, 5, the 1944th Latvian Rifle Corps was formed. In addition to the 130rd, it included the 43th Latvian Rifle Division, the formation of which was begun at the end of June and completed on July 308, 7. At that moment, there were 1944% of Latvians, 36,3% of Russians and 47,8% of Jews. On December 7,8, 18, a GKO decree was adopted on the formation of the 1941th Estonian and 7th Lithuanian rifle divisions. On January 16, 1, the personnel of the Lithuanian division totaled 1943 people, including 10% of Lithuanians, 250% of Russians and 36,3% of Jews. The 29,9th division took an active part in the Battle of Kursk
... As for the Estonians, in addition to the 7th division, the 249th Estonian rifle division is being created almost simultaneously - the order of the USSR People's Commissar of Defense on its formation was issued on February 10, 1942. In May 1942, the State Defense Committee decided to unite these divisions into the 8th Estonian Rifle Corps. On May 15, 1942, there were 19 people in the corps, including 658% of Estonians and 88,8% of Russians. This ratio of the national composition was maintained throughout the war. In 9,9-1944. all these units participated in the liberation of the Baltic, often fighting against their own countrymen, dressed in SS uniform. So, on September 1945 and 20, 21, units of the 1944th Estonian corps entered into combat clashes with units of the 8th Estonian, and at the end of March 20 - with the 1945th Latvian SS division. In the ranks of the Red Army, 19 thousand Estonians, 21,2 thousand Latvians and 11,6 thousand Lithuanians were killed. In addition, partisan detachments and an underground movement operated on the territory of the Baltic occupied by the Germans, albeit on a significantly smaller scale than, say, in Belarus. The current authorities of Latvia and Estonia consider these people to be criminals, but for us they remain heroes.

Many of them were awarded the highest awards of the USSR. Among the Heroes of the Soviet Union and full holders of the Order of Glory, there are 15 Latvians (including 2 for the antifascist war in Spain in 1936-39), 16 Lithuanians and 12 Estonians.

After the Second World War, several thousand Baltic soldiers had to go through a series of local wars. The heroism of the soldiers of these particular nationalities and it is in these battles is difficult to assess - individual national units in the Soviet Army no longer existed, and conscripts from these republics turned out to be blurred throughout the SA, and secondly, the material describing precisely military operations and manifestations of heroism (it was in the data wars) is not very much. Usually, the history of the participation of Soviet troops (and the troops of post-Soviet countries) boils down to a description of the political causes of these conflicts and general phrases about the participation of the armies of the USSR, the CIS, etc.

It is known that during the entry of troops of the USSR and allied states into Czechoslovakia (military operation "Danube") in 1968, 3 Lithuanian soldiers were killed and 2 were slightly wounded. A significant number of Baltic soldiers had to serve and fight in the 1980s in Afghanistan. I do not know their exact number, but 98 servicemen of these nationalities (21 Latvians, 60 Lithuanians, 17 Estonians) died there. They did not hide behind the backs of their colleagues.

After the events of 1991, the Baltic states began to create their own armies. Soon (especially after these countries joined NATO), Baltic military units and officers began to participate in NATO military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. And no matter how you relate to NATO, the Baltic countries and these wars, the Baltic warriors also fought honestly, as in the past. In Iraq in 2003-2012, 3 residents of Latvia and 2 of Estonia were killed, in addition to them, 19 Ukrainian, 5 Georgian soldiers and 1 resident of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan were killed. In Afghanistan, in 2001-2017, 9 citizens of Estonia, 4 of Latvia, 1 of Lithuania, as well as 32 residents of Georgia laid their heads. What can I say - they showed themselves in battle no worse than their fellow countrymen who passed through Afghanistan in the 80s.

You can relate differently to the peoples of the Baltic, the armies of these countries, the Baltic as a whole, but thousands of her sons proved themselves worthy in battle, including in the Russian and Soviet Army.

Everything is relative. With a population 3 times smaller than the Baltic, the Mordovians had 61 Hero of the Soviet Union. And if we compare the Mordovians with the same Finno-Ugric Estonians 61 against 12 with almost the same number. Such are the statistics.

Everything is relative both in terms of the number and age and sex structure of each nation, and in terms of the number of those called up and those in the active army, and in terms of the number of those represented - awarded with various awards. Out of about 400 "sailors" Hero got okay if half, to whom the order, to whom nothing (the lists of "sailors" and "Ghatellovtsy" are in Wiki and on other sites) ... For one and that feat, the commander could present an order to the Hero or not to imagine anything, but he might not know about him, and somewhere surrounded by what orders? Here is a more (relatively) reliable indicator of heroism (although everyone had heroes and "heroes") https://proza.ru/2021/06/15/1040

And if you also compare the fact that Mordovia was never under German occupation and recruits from there were recruited from 1941 to 1945 ...
