Peskov: Russia opposes the use of Turkish weapons in Donbass
124
The topic of military-technical cooperation between Turkey and Ukraine is very important for Russia, since the Ukrainian military can use Turkish weapons to strike at the people's republics of Donbass. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.
Answering the relevant question from journalists, the president's press secretary said that Moscow opposes the use of Turkish weapons in the Donbas, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine can use them against the military personnel of the DPR and LPR.
(...) Ukraine is a country that has internal conflicts in the South-East. Of course, we would not like to see such weapons systems, shall we say, be used with hot heads to strike at our own citizens of Ukraine.
- he said.
The question was asked on the eve of the meeting of the presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which is being held in Sochi today.
Note that Turkey has established quite good cooperation with Ukraine in the military-technical sphere. The countries have signed several agreements providing for the purchase of weapons, as well as the construction of ships for the Ukrainian Navy. In addition, Ukraine views Turkey as a member of the North Atlantic Alliance, which will help the country achieve "NATO standards."
