A new reconnaissance drone "Merlin-BP" has been developed in Russia; the developer is the Smolensk Scientific Research Institute of Modern Telecommunication Technologies.
The reconnaissance UAV "Merlin-VR" is capable of conducting reconnaissance in automatic and semi-automatic modes for 10 hours at an altitude of up to 5 km. Payload drone is 6,5 kg, it is capable of carrying various reconnaissance equipment. The engine is hybrid.
The task of the UAV "Merlin-VR" is called the detection and observation of structures and objects at any time of the day, under various weather conditions, including under snow cover and behind camouflage nets, as well as the assessment of the visibility of objects.
The drone was demonstrated to the military, as well as to representatives of the military-industrial complex of Russia. The possibility of carrying out full-fledged tests is currently being considered.
Note that UAV developers from the Smolensk Research Institute of Modern Telecommunication Technologies have previously presented a whole aviation unmanned reconnaissance complex "Filibuster". The complex consisted of two Merlin-21BM drones and a mobile control center based on a KamAZ vehicle.
According to the developers, the Merlin-BP UAV is a further development of the Merlin-21BM. The new drone has a large size, and, accordingly, a large load, flight altitude and range.
