The government of the Russian Federation supports the bill
- the text says.
Thus, the bill proposed by the President of Russia, amending Art. 49 of the Federal Law of 28.03.1998 N 53-FZ "On Military Duty and Military Service", was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. It is currently under consideration by the State Duma deputies, where it was introduced in July. Undoubtedly, the bill will soon receive full approval of the deputies.
Recall that Vladimir Putin proposed to give the head of state the right to extend the deadline for the service of marshals, generals and admirals. According to Putin, sometimes there is a need to extend the service life of some "highly qualified officers."
The new law will give the president the right to extend the term of service of senior officers after they reach 70 years of age. Currently, the law "On conscription and military service" defines the age limit for military service at 65 years with the conclusion of an additional contract until the officer reaches 70 years of age.
Currently, there are no marshals in the Russian armed forces, the highest officer rank is army general. There are more than 10 officers on active military service in this rank, five of them are between the ages of 65 and 69.
